random thoughts
understand use of right arm/hand impaired due to stroke
use of left arm impaired by rotator cuff tear and disconnected tendon

4 x 8 table is of radiata pine. darn proud of the job I did :D especially considering
supporting role filled by quick grip clamps

2 inch foam easier/lighter to get home than plywood. needed the extra base because if I lean on it it better not give out.

yard tracks and kato turntable currently on floor

dcc using nce PH-Pro-R Wireless. will get 1 or 2 more handsets

have purchased 14 sound equipped locos over the last year and had 6 long owned ones converted over the last year. you can never have too many 8)
I have an impressive collection of locos and rolling stock 20+ years old.

unitrack will be isolated and feed by block just in case
wiring is unitrack because intricate hand work not possible

next step remove all track, glue down top layer and paint top an earthen color

bonus points for anyone that guess what layout was the inspiration

Nice long mainline run with a some switching too. Nice layout!

I will have to think about what layout inspired you. I think I know but I'll be darned if I can find it again.

Looks great so far! I’d like to see the engines sometime soon :)

Are you going freelanced or is there a particular railroad you’re modeling?

freelanced. had to get santa fe fp45s my all-time fav. then had to get el capitan cars, 10 + 2 of them to go with them.
then decided I liked the illinois central cars and got them. gotta find some matching power.
then there's the amtrak sdp40s and 10 el capitan cars and ...

instead of riding the brooks bus line detroit-mayfield, ky to see granny, at least one time we took the train to chicago and then the IC to fulton.
long, long time ago.

It's a very popular layout in n scale.

the commercial origin is correct but not atlas.
but I did have a 4 x 8 layout when I was young, the atlas great eastern trunk.

I suspect that when DaveO is done this will be a beautiful layout worthy of Model Railroader Magazine’s top layouts

my inspiration was woodlands scenics' scenic ridge.
but I wanted more and have lots of time to fill, so I upsized.

my empire is no longer a sea of lush green. it's now a brown barren wasteland.
I could watch the eclipse or watch paint dry. I'm choosing eclipse of course. from home.

Hope everyone wanting to see the eclipse are rewarded with a good view.
temperature is cooperating nicely.

Looking forward to pictures of your engines and freight cars.

No need for pictures of “fake” passenger cars 🙂

all track in place and wired and works. I love the kato turntable.
on the downside kato day 1 e8 headlight doesn't work. need to send in for warranty.
atlas pepsi can fuel tank drags the rail because they forgot to mill the bottom of the tank.
broadway limited sd70ace has issue shorting out randomly. need to remove shell and see if it's a simple fix.
it's been a long and slow road to get here but I made it.

and for *aarr I have provided a train for his viewing pleasure. :D

I need to make some tunnel liners about 6 inches long.
Is there any foam board product out there about 1/4 to 3/8 inch think that can be curved yet still form rigid sides?
I'm just looking to make vertical sides and a horizontal top.
Maybe some other product?
It has be something that can be done with the use of 1 1/4 hands 😟

I've tried to find premade tunnel portals none of which work with double-stacks and 86 foot hi-cube boxcars on curves.
Apparently that's unheard of.
Good thing I have lots of time to fill looking.
