Nice picture TW. Your skills have vastly improved
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...
Re: I like the Outcome...
You could have composed it much better than you did. Taking a few steps back and to your right would have put the sunrise closer to the front of the engine, allowing you to have some space between the ass-end of the engine and the right side of the frame. As it is now, it's cropped way too tight on the right.
Seasoned railroad photography technician? Yeah, right.

Re: I like the Outcome...
Not a horrible shot but...... I would've liked a better placement of the sun and you need to decide if this is a silhouette or not, because if it isn't then the locomotive needs a tad bit more of exposure as it seems a bit dark. What did you meter off of? This is where your "skills" should kick in TW. Your loco should be underexposed by a stop or two to bring out the detail - IF that's your subject, which I assume it is.
If you've got a non-moving subject (locomotive in this case), take the time and don't rush if there's no need to.

Poorly composed and Underexposed locomotive. It needs more space on the right side. Maybe a little bit of fill flash would've helped, too. Nice attempt!

Statements like this do absolutely nothing to help the person learn why it's underexposed or why the composition (in your opinion) is wrong. If he was shooting a silhouette, it would've been a lot more underexposed anyways.B-Town wrote:Poorly composed and Underexposed locomotive.
