R&N 425 Returns to Steam!

Unread post by RailCanon »

Some very good news for the steam-starved Northeast.
Reading, Blue Mountain & Northern's Ex-GM&N (Gulf Mobile & Northern) 4-6-2 #425, also known as the "Four and a Quarter" has just come out of a 9 month overhaul and is currently being tested on the RBM&N system. This is the first time that 425 has operated in 11 years.
A video of a test run done on Saturday December 29, 2007 is available here.

Now that 425 has returned, you can bet some excursions will be in order for 2008.

Cool. Didn't this engine double head with Steamtown's CP 4-6-2 awhile back?

It may have. It was at Steamtown from 1995 to late 1996. During that time it pulled quite a few of Steamtown's Moscow excursions.

during the grand opening, they ran several different variations of trips...I remember sitting at a crossing a few miles out of town, and every hour there would be a different engine blasting past; most times we didnt know what it would be! towards the end of the day, I remember them doing a shuttle around the yard with the 2317-3254-425...everyone was calling it a "pacific sandwich"
