I hear there are two sand operations up north. Yuma ships out foundry sand (and maybe frac sand?) and there is a transload in Cadillac that unloads fra sand.

The Yuma operation gets switched 3-5x per week and might ship as few as 10 or as many as 30.

The Cadillac operation I know little about other than hearsay. And I hear they get anywhere from 20-75 cars per week.

There may be another small transload drilling sand operation in Cadillac's North Yard for Howe & Howe.

Maybe some one can confirm how many cars these operations switch.

I would say all the sand hoppers were for Yuma, all had COOX,DSIX,AOK,MBKX reporting marks and seemed empty judging by the springs. Also in Oakley there is yet another grain train being loaded, they have been loading 2-3 unit trains a week there for the past 3 weeks.Middelton is taking in corn right now so there should be another unit train there soon as well. Also Middelton is adding yet another huge grain bin at there complex this week, they was putting the top on it today..

After getting heads up from three different railfans in the area, it is my understanding that the 702/701 job has the 2661 today, it will be leading the train back to Bay City tonight. The 5086 was leading towards Durand.

Caught the HESR last night, heading west out of Bad Axe. CORP 3826 had 18 covered hoppers. Bad Axe yard looked quite full. The only thing I could recognize from a distance were the Burroughs Materials(Wallace Stone) hoppers. They were working the elevator east of Elkton, where a large expansion is taking place. There were 30ish covered hoppers on the siding there. The siding in town had 5 scrap gons for Tower. In Pigeon there were 20+ covered hoppers and boxcars north of town at the colored bean plant, and string of SGVY hoppers on the siding on the west side of town. The picture is from Pinnebog Road.

Nice catch and report, pbmax! Have you seen any box cars at Tower lately?

The only thing I have seen on the siding or the spur into the plant are scrap gons. I am assuming all finished outbound product must be going by truck. The last time I saw one of the 89' boxcars was at least a year and a half ago. I remember it was about 11:30 p.m. and the ground crew was pulling the truck across M-142 and turning on the lights to warn traffic that they were pushing across the road and into the plant. There are tall trees and a house right next to the spur, and it is impossible to see them coming south across M-142. If I remember correctly, it was a CSX box. I remember seeing a few GTW boxes there occasionally, but most of them were CSX.

Heard the 2014 honking for crossings here in town about an hour ago, I would assume it is on the 740 job.

Nice video but don't aim the camera directly at their headlights. Looks like something out of a ghost movie or something.

I do that all the time, plus the angle was tight so I had no choice.

Suppose this falls into GLC...saw no mention of this anywhere, but heard the Annie heading north through town a little after 6 pm. Drove north to Osmer expecting to see the typical hand-off with the GLC, but instead found an absolutely colossal string of CSX grain cars, one far too long to fit on either siding. GLC pulled out of Osmer really quickly; instead of trying to find A2 motive power, I raced up to Eight MIle and caught 390 and 399 pulling the string northbound.

Anyone out there know what the exact car count was?

Not sure on that train but I've seen GLC take solid CSX grain trains south from Owosso upwards of 90 cars long.

The new norm is 90 cars and they will not fit into either siding at Osmer. I think the most one of the sidings at Osmer can hold is 70-80.
