CSX GRE MQT Train Location Update 10-6-08
Looks like it might be quiet on the GRE. Small inbound delivery from CSX but no crew on duty. The usual Amtrak.

Late heads up Todays Q327, should have one ex-Metra, BNSF, BN cab car on the rear. It came from Toledo. Crew got a hot box, at NB, and stopped along side us. I got off and helped the conductor. Someone tied a hand brake on it at Stanley and never took it off. I had to show the conductor where they are in a passenger car. Ex-Metra, BNSF 796.

Well then I would say look for it tommrow.
Doc that been going on around here a while now, they just getting to you guys. It all started around here back when the "FRA" crackdown came around last April-May. Caught one guy twice in two weeks not tying down had brakes, ouch. That wat's up with all the no more then three, no less then one rules. Just got it put in in Rouge, and its a "bowl" yard. Took the past 5 months to have someone from Jville say that yea ok nothing will roll away, in a bowl yard with three hadbrakes on it.

Re: Hand Brakes
Sometime when you have lots of crews that tie up the radio doing important things like making joints and they are too far away to use hand signals they sometimes can be at it for some time and if your ready to go and need to talk to yardmaster for paperwork, get a car number, sloworders, anything it helps to call on the Bell. There have been time where im in West Yard at the bottom of the yard and need to talk to the dock forman, and hes on the dock with a hand-held he cant hear me with out the engineer relaying everthing I say back and forth. So I have called on my phone. Same thing in West yard Eagle Mills cant hear me on my hand-held. But as Doc says FRA is having a panic attack, so now when we have some down time on a break in the cab we cant have our phones Ipods any distraction.J T wrote:What happens if your radio stops working?Doktor No wrote: Latest? Doc dont you love have thoses lighting rods when there's a thunderstorm?I see a LOT of new wheels on cars and hear a lot of flat spots going by. The wheel shops oughta be getting busier by the day. Oh and you have to carry your 'brake stick' to release or apply the brakes too. Always fun in the yard when you have a radio, pencil and paper checking off cars, lantern etc, etc.
Well JT, I'm thinkin' that the crews could get out and tap some Morse Code on the railhead.....That or send some smoke signals from fusees' or start carrying a small mirror to send some flash signals......
I saw yesterday something about the 'new' rules for us Amtrakers' which pretty much said 'No cell phones on the engine'. The conductor still can use them in the performance of their duties which mainly would be to O.S. the train out of un-manned stations and to report delays of 15' or more to CNOC so they can call the host rr to find out what's up and update the computer for the train's estimated arrival at stations' downline.

Westbounds Coming
Eventually, there should be two westbounds coming out of Toledo. N914-30 west olive eastern load with CSX 620-4760 and K902-04 with CSX 5479-7660. (unless they swap power) Todays Q326-06 had no cars, at least east of Ensel.
