Amtrak had only #36 pulling this morning. And there was something switching in Waverly...I assume D700?

Q326-13 heading in to Holland - 9:22 AM. Sounds like there was a problem with one of the units - engine hot light came on, so it had to be shut down...

Sounds like D700 would be correct Steve, as I heard them coming into Wyoming yard around 8:30am.

Q326-12

Unread post by BL2-1843 »

Q326-12 engines light, no cars, by Howell at 10am. As Don reported late yesteday, 7612 leading, one trailing. What I want to know is what was trailing as I fell asleep after he went through Fowlerville and awoke as the trailing unit was passing by, and missed it by a fraction of a second.

There's a G028 empty grain train heading North towards Michigan clearing Vickers around 1230 or so. I think the leader was CSXT 8058 (it was a SD40-2) and the trailing unit was a Conrail painted Dash 8 standard cab. All CSX grain hoppers (mostly tan CSX paint) but included one RF&P and one L&N patched cars plus some Chessie, SBD, & Conrail. Heads up North...

Really nasty gray down here so no decent pictures (and had it been sunny it would have been coming right out of the sun, so wouldn't matter much for me anyway).

Regards,
Michael

Q335-13

Unread post by BL2-1843 »

Q335-13 8046,7490,2675,2497 at Fowlerville at 1341, meeting D709-13.
Unit number two and four in this consist is in Conrail paint. 2675 is a very recent repaint from Waycross. Leader in an older CSX scheme and needs to be painted. Sounds like another CR painted unit is behind in a G028 grain empty per Michael.

Glenn chimed in...said MQT Z15113(12?) is heading north out of Grand Rapids as of 2:40pm.
Said to have GMTX 2648 and GMTX 2635, and if heard correctly, which is always a big if, 51 cars. Heads up Baldwin!

Busy day today, no chance to check out the GRE. Cardio guy was happy today, me too :). Next checkup is 3 more years, no more nuclear stress tests, echo cardiograms from here on out :D For those of you that don't know, I was very close to having a massive, most likely fatal, heart attack in April of 2002. The short story is I had meet Ray Kammer the previous fall and I was managing a local all volunteer tourist RR in addition to my real full time job at the Road Commission. I blamed by shortness of breath on the stress of managing the tourist line and being over weight and out of shape. I told ray I was resigning from the RR and he said I think you have a heart problem. Long story short, he scared me into calling the doctor (I would have been macho man and ignored it). I took a stress test that night, was at the cardio guy 2 days later and in te Spectrum Butterworth OR for a heart cath 7 days later. The possible options were a false alarm. a stent or 2, or open heart surgery. I was fortunate, only 1 stent needed. Needless to say, Ray most likely saved my life because I wouldn't have gone to the doctor.

To keep this RR related, I was in a meeting today for the Muskatowa / White Pine Trail connector project. Going to connect 2 former RR grades with the non-motorized path.

See you tomorrow morning.
