CSX Train Location Updates - May 2023

L302-03 by Howell at 18:20. Maybe 4529 leading, maybe 5338 or 5388 trailing with who knows how many cars, but a fairly long train. No paper or pencil in hand and little memory left to remember by the time I got to one.

Did they have a meet at Brighton on 5/3? I thought I heard a WB going through from my work at Scranton Middle School, then a short time later thought I heard an EB as well. Did L303-03 make it that far east by then, or was this the Lansing local that had to go as far as SL for some reason, or was i hearing things.

10:40: Y197 is banging around the west end of Wyoming Yard near Lamar. L301 starting to build their train. Y106 working near Judd. I think I heard the Grand Elk interchange is also in Wyoming Yard.

Y121-05 @ 11:01 eastward Holland’s Dock Track diverging onto the Main Track at mp CG25.0 with CSX engine #6515 & 3 empty Gons & the OLS Caboose. Surprised to see empty Gons, they are usually loaded with scrap metal for this trip.

Y197 with 6538, 2 covered hoppers, 1 covered high side gon and 2 boxcars shoving down the City Market spur, 11:10.

L303 crew is on their power, too.

L303 coming to Plaster Creek to start building their train: 7250, 560, 5455. Y106 engine 6110 heading out behind the Elk for Old 17 from the Old even lead: 7 newish DJJX gons, 7 LPG tanks, 1 covered hopper.

I was wondering when Z439 Grand Elk Interchange was going to arrive into Wyoming Yard, RN Dispatcher told them to call since their radio call was horrible and full of static.

Y106-05 @ 12:55 heading east at Breton Road mp CH 146.45 with CSX #6110 (GP40-2) LHF with 12 cars (4 loaded gondolas + 7 loaded tankers and 1 covered hopper at rear).

Minute before the train passed Breton Road, they almost hit a man trespassing while walking on the tracks in the same direction as the train was going. I’m at a bad angle but if I was to stand on the other side, you would have seen how close this train was.

Around 13:00 L301 was talking to Rouge Tower about tying down their train either at or near Buzzi Cement - lo location was specified nor the reason why. They did say their train is all air tested for the next crew & no idea when a crew is to be called. Maybe someone in the area can verify where L301 actually is. Their next stop was to be Waverly & at this time (14:34) still no DD19.1 report has been heard for them.

U301-05 (re-crew for L301) @ 17:35 heard talking in Grand Rapids with CSX engine #4070 & 44 cars. He will work Buzzi Cement mp CG5.2 & then will head westward into Waverly/Holland. Not known yet if he will also be going westward to Hartford mp CG68.7 & Sawyer mp CG105.2 which is what today's L301-05 was to do.
