I bet your right about delays. Single tracking Alliance to CP86 for track replacement then again in Cleveland RD 114-RD 122. Plus in the am it's a uphill battle against the am's mail trains.

E-8's move from Philly to pittsburgh

Unread post by iron*mah »

admin edit: merged this post into this existing thread for the Pennsy E's to Chicago.

There will be an Amtrak Special consisting of Bennett Levins PRR e-8's and three varnish from Philly to Pittsburgh on 5 / 4 / 2011. Consist is on its way to Chicago for Train Day .
Train to follow Amtrak route , leaving Philly at 9:00 am . Hoping to get info on its progress through the morning and into the early afternoon so I can see it come in at the station.

There are no scheduled stops but will probably have delays .

Thanks Greg. Not sure how far East i'll be headed but I will be trackside very early Thursday. Prolly go as far West as Elkhart. The Depot at Delta would be nice.
Delta is hard to shoot. Railroad is using it as a signal maintainer's office and for storage and it's a little inaccessible without some heavy trespassing. Wauseon is very accessible but there's a tiny yard there that's currently being used for storage and limiting the angles.
I would say Stryker or Waterloo is your best bet for a depot shot.
There's also a station at La Porte - CP 463. Good shot from adjacent streets.

Hey, I had to pass it on! There had been some rumors of Amtrak power leading and I wasn't sure how clear everyone was!

NS 065 just pulled out onto Norfolk Southern in Harrisburg and are refueling at the pad. Should be moving along on the Pittsburgh Line shortly.

SLIGHTLY related note: If anyone else wants to go out earlier to see another pair of "historic" passenger engines, Amtrak 29, the westbound Capitol Limited, has the Phase I and II heritage units, 156 and 66, leading out of Washington tonight, with normal Phase V unit 18 spliced between the two. Both of these units will also be on display at Chicago Union Station with the Pennsy E's. Granted, 29 runs before and just after dawn on most of the Chicago Line, but just thought I'd throw it out there.

Well two conflicting reports now, one say they left Pittsburgh at 0800 the other says they left 15 min late at 0915.

I think it's likely the guy who posted "8AM" on TO doesn't know what he's talking about and the other guy who OS'd it 10 miles out of PGH at 0926 actually does (and that would imply a close to "on time" departure given the 0900 "scheduled" time)

Dp Pittsburgh 900a
Ar Toledo 230p
Dp Toledo 300p after fueling and crew change

Latest is through Atwater, OH (SE of Cleveland, NW of Alliance) at noon. I likely won't be posting further online updates for a while.
