Crew is still awaiting orders at Barr. One train is at 51st St and the other at 71St St. Tehy will have to put them together before proceeding east. No one even knows is NS has agreed to take a train this long. This could be a huge CSX wet dream in the works.....wait and see. On the cam at the Division Street crossing mp CG60.93 @ 5:43:22pm. He was stopped at the east end of Gross siding mp CG61.3 & got the ok thru the work zone @ 5:41pm. The crews are limited, by federal law, to 10 hours on duty time & that clock starts when they report for duty. There is usually a safety job briefing & other paperwork (bulletin orders) & then prepping their train for departure. From an earlier post, the coal cars are in 2 different locations & need to be put together (probably 130 cars at each location), air test, brake tests, programming their PTC & setting the EOT unit. Hmmm...ok that differs from Amtrak NEC, it was 12 hours for me in the signals department with 8 off which was then moved up to 10 hours rest period for Hours of Service work & 10 hours on duty for the train engineers. If we were digging ditches for signal cables or snow removal you could work till ya dropped but not beyond 16 hours because double time pay kicks in. If you were doing non-live signal circuit work (ditches, etc) you couldn't even take a single meter reading on any live vital circuits because then your entire tour would become "hours of service" even though the past 12 hours were "non-hours of service" work. Some of our equipment was considered "non-vital" such as the electronic signal indication equipment that reports the signal block status train/no train (i.e the GRS brand analog F2 transmitters & receivers or the DupLIne brand digital indication circuits). Even the Remote Terminal Units (RTU) that had replaced the human tower operators & respond to the sent commands from our CETC command centers were considered as being non-vital equipment. I was on snow duty one time & our only function was to keep the snow swept out of the switch points at an Interlocking, we had already passed the 12 hour mark when the then tower operator had set the wrong route & asked us to "take the route out of time" so he didn't have to run the clock down & delay the train. We had to refuse his request because that would have counted as being "vital circuit work" & then would have automatically made all of our previous hours of "non-hours of service work" now count as hours of service & a violation with fines I would have had to pay - not the company.Saturnalia wrote:The limit is actually 12 hours on duty, not 10.

T&E crews can have 12 hours on duty max, anything after that is considered limbo time in which train service cannot be performed. After being on duty for 12 hours or less, they are entitled to 10 hours of undisturbed rest. If they are on duty for more than 12 hours, they get 10 hours plus however much extra time they were on duty over 12 hours.

That doubled-up coal train is on the move approaching Chesterton at 22:38 EDT. He's just going by the Millers Siding at CP 490

N801-19 is to set off 1/2 of his train at New Buffalo mp CG113.9 & the other 1/2 will be taken over by D801-24. Q327-26 passed Bangor’s Monroe St crossing MP CG60.72 @7:06AM. Also reported clear both ends of Kirk @7:28AM. He has CSX #’s 3051 and 5269 leading

D801-24 @ 03:51:52am Bangor mp CG60.7 with BNSF engines #9104 + 1 & 130 loaded coal cars & the 2 CSX pushers #3209 + #3266. This was 1/2 of the N801-19 and the other half was tied down in Sawyer siding mp 104.6
N800-24 @ 04:27am/04:54am at Bangor mp CG60.7 with BNSF engine #5927 leading (from the radio archives). He tied down in Wells siding mp CG43.3 (DD reports were stepped on).
