CSX GRE MQT Train Location Update 9-25-08

Unread post by Raildudes dad »

The Alma crew is getting ready to go on duty. Another big slug of cars for King. Looks like the usual Amtrak but it's behind the building an the Kings left behind the past 2 times.

Which subdivision has CC mileposts? I see that it runs along the east edge of the state, but what's it called and who owns it?

After arguing with Enterprise this morning, went down 29th St in GR, gates go down at Breton... get into a nearby parking lot fast, get out, turn on camera, "No CF card"..... argh! There went Y320, CSXT 4411(conrail paint) going westbound, approx 15 cars. A number of empty flats from alto included. Approx 7:45am

Stopped at home, grabbed my CF card, and headed towards Holland...took Chicago drive as I had extra time..caught D70024 nearing Vriesland, CSXT 2520 leading, believe 49 cars...11 cars at the end of sand. Approx 8:40am
N90020 went on duty at 7:45am, getting ready to take their coal loads to West Olive.

Wonder if those 11 sand cars are from Livingston or from Muskegon?

Bad Order Boxcars

Unread post by DLM »

The string of bad order boxcars on the west end of the CSX Wyoming yard along Chicago Dr. disappeared. Where did they end up?

Well, normally the sand cars from Livingston are on the rear of D700 if it makes the Waverly pickup. Were those cars CSX cars or various cars with USLX, ITLX and/or CRDX cars? CSX cars dominate Muskegon traffic, the various leasing company hoppers come from Livingston.

Y121 brought Q326 in from Holland. CSXT 8537 & 5275 for power, 74 cars. W059-23 with 15 side dump cars into GR just before 13:00, CSXT 4723 for power.

Is the car shop actively still working on plug door repairs for boxcars? I know they were doing work on CSX and former Conrail boxcars up there working on doors, etc, a while back. Just curious to know if they're still on that project, or if they've moved on to something else.

Too bad they can't repaint the cars when they're in the carshop.... freshly painted and lettered CSX boxcars in C&O type blue and yellow look really great.... too bad most of the ones we see are covered in graffiti :P

Thanks for the update Doc... oh.... which caboose was it that went south to Louisville? You mentioned it was from Ensel. Thanks

11:15 am caught Q150 southbound around the Toledo Wye with CSX 8864 and UP 7649 and a nice mix of Hamburg Sud and Pacer Stacktrain containers on Sealand, TTX, CN, and FEC well cars. After lunch with my grandparents, caught K389 eastbound around the Toledo Wye around 12:30pm with CSX 8549 and W&LE 6347 overtaking D717 near East Yard where the Ex-Coe Rail Alco S2 still awaits his fate. They had K389 stopped for awhile due to ties being replaced on the Detroit Sub that held-up D717 and D716's power, too.

N900 went by around 10:07 AM with CSX 231 and 526. On the way back down from West Olive, it was light power - only N900 picked up another set of CSX engines.

Y121 headed east around 11:50 AM with CSX 8537 and 5275 - think the length of the train was 4950 feet if I remember correctly.

I'll see if I can get some pics posted later.

There was only 1 sand hopper from Muskegon last night, so they definately weren't from Nugent. Along with the larger CSX hoppers that are in Muskegon, Nugent is also getting NAHX 500xxx-series shorty hoppers, almost identical to the CSX cylindrical shorties.

Haven't seen cars painted in Wyoming in like 20 years. Normally the shop would work on cars that required more work than the RIP could give them but less than a full overhaul. Once the work was done they used to be sent to Huntington (box cars, gons, cabeese) or Tampa (covered hoopers) for paint. By the looks of the stuff that was setting on the reefer track on the west end, those cars looked like they needed more than a little work. I figured they where pooling them here to put a hospital train together to send them down south so they could work them over the winter. Usually they head for Toldeo then parts south.

4:46pm - Q32725 westbound at CH 72, with single engine CSXT 8463 leading 41 cars. The middle third of the train looked to be coal for MSU.

5:49pm - Q33525 (!) westbound at CH 79.9, running 6252 feet and 420 axles.
