Went up to Pt Huron yesterday. Caught 383 coming out of the tunnel from Canada, with a short train, around 8:00. They had a setoff and a pickup. Caught another train coming off the Mt Clemens sub, and going into Canada.
Later, a trainmaster called 383 and asked them what the delay was. They said there was no delay. Just that they had a setoff and a pickup. Nothing more was said.
I headed south and stopped in St Clair to watch a ship go by. Then I headed west, and down gratiot to Richmond. No sign of 383. Continued south to New Haven, and found 383 in the siding at Haven. They were waiting for 382 and 384, which was supposed to be hot on 382s tail. 382 came north through New Haven around 11:00. 384 finally came north through New Haven around 11:35, going pretty fast. Within minutes 383s headlight was on and they pulled out of the siding, going real slow through New Haven, with a huge train. He must have had a huge pickup in Pt Huron, because his train was much longer than he came from Canada with. I guess he was going slow, getting his train through the switch and out of the siding. When he cleared the crossing, I headed back to Gratiot, but could not get ahead of 383,despite driving 60mph down Gratiot. He was on the crossing at every side road I passed. He must have slowed down going through Mt Clemens, and I got ahead of him. He finally got to East yard, and was cleared down to Conant around midnight, four hours after arriving in Pt Huron. He was in the siding at Haven for over an hour.

sounds like Geometry Car is in the yard waiting on a re-crew.

Make that the Pontiac yard and it is near the yard offices.

Anybody know what the traffic levels are like on the South Bend sub these days? Are there any particular days that are better than others to catch a lot of trains?

Thanks.

The South Bend sub is really off and on. They have added a new train that seems to be daily, The 332.

Any way, Sundays are usually Dead untill late in the day, Then Mondays seem to be hopping.

Over all traffic is up but it's still hit and miss.
