Please do not poke at the ramp agent because he has the power to make your vacation
memorable or miserable. It all depends on what flight you bags go on.

Forgot to post last night, but saw X116 go south through Plymouth around 8:30pm. Q322, Q277, D716 and likely something else went by too around 7-9pm.

I don't see how two units at the opposite end of the train is "in tandem" either. Tandem usually means coupled together either pulling or pushing in unison. It's not at all unusual for a push-pull lash up on a midwest service train even if it's not typical on the 370/371.

If one looks at the Amtrak national consist book, it states that 370/371 are to have either 2 engines or one engine and an NPCU... Whenever chicago doesn't have enough NCPU, 370/371 will get 2 units. I for one am excited its a 500 series unit, just like the old days.

Sez the book, but over the last several years it has been a P42 + cars, or P42 + cars + Cabbage.

The little fella is probably too young to remember, but the PM used to run with 2 engines all the time years ago when they would throw on a unit in Chicago that had just been worked on to test it out.

It happened occasionally, not all the time. It was easy to detect because the engines would be coupled elephant style.

P42 + Cars + Cabbage (NPCU) Alex, so that would be the same as a P42 on each end in the consist book. When it has only one engine I cannot speak to or explain.

All that I know is two working locomotives on the PM over the last 3 years has been very rare. Always been just one P42/500 with cars, sometimes with cabbage, some times without. That is why I pointed it out as abnormal...that is all

Right but that isn't what we are saying and it isn't exactly what the book says. It is normal for two units or one unit and one cabbage to be on the train. 1 engine and cars is the abnormal event. You are writing as though the book says 2 engines are the only normal thing. It is normal for two units or 1 unit and one cabbage. Not for 1 unit and that's all.
