Hot Afternoon in Deshler

Unread post by Y@ »

Here are my first three shots from today.

K69528 comes into town with a nice pair of leaders. The trailing unit is ICE 6411: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 193&nseq=3

Q33929 approaches South Deshler with a six-pack up front: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 195&nseq=1

Q37528 waits west of town for Q340 to clear up: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.p ... 196&nseq=0

You missed the eastbound K train with a solid lash up of ICE SD's....it went east around 11:20 or so as reported on Trainorders...

No worries, I missed it too... :x

Yeah, Joe said he got it. Said it was by Deshler at 10:21. I was working until about noon so I couldn't have gotten it anyway. I was happy to bag the 6411 on K695.

Sorry we didn't make it. John had to drop Cheryl off for a one-day bus trip at Tiffin instead of Findlay like originally planned. So we went to Oak Harbor all day to kill time before he had to go pick her up again. We'll get up there.

What is the best times of the day for trains at Deshler ? Any better than others ? Dead times or daily lulls ? Best times to catch foreign power ?

Anytime is train time at Deshler, although there seems to be surges of activity in the morning and in the evening. Catching foreign power is merely dumb luck, however somebody who is more familiar with certain trains can tell you which ones usually run with foreign power. But no matter what time of the day you go, you probably won't be bored.

Mornings and afternoons/evenings are best for trains in daylight. Nights are pretty much non-stop from what I understand.

As for foreign power, any of the ethanol trains can have ICE/DME/CITX stuff. Q380, Q389 and Q393 often have BNSF power, and I've even seen Q389 run with UP power a couple times. Q090 and Q091 will always have UP power as well.

Any of the ethanol trains off the DM&E can have ICE/DME/CITX power. Obviously, a train that came from the Iowa Interstate, Iowa Northern, or another railroad would not

Ok. I'll be in Deshler the 6th all day, Fostoria the 12th all day, and am doing the all-nighter at Deshler the 12-13. I know I know, it's an ambitious schedule, but somebody has to do it.

Lately there have been some dead times at night, but it's usually not a long period of time.
