Derailment in downtown Wauseon, OH

Unread post by rwas »

WTOL Channel 11 in Toledo is reporting a derailment in downtown Wauseon of at least 15 semi trailers that have come off and are on the ground. Saw it on facebook. NS Chicago line. Multiple roads blocked. Would almost have to be in vicinity of the depot with Fulton St. and street west of there blocked.

Updated info from locals on facebook. It is between Lawrence and Brunell which is just west of depot area and in the area of the crossover. Looks more like stacks not "semi trailers" Photo available on Ch 11 facebook post.

On site. Westbound. At fulton st train is on eb mainheaded west. Headend is west of town on westbound main I think. Derailment at street just west of depot. Appears to have derailed at crossovers.containers on ground crossways across tracks both mains appear to be blocked. This train is occupying both. There is an eastbound intermodal west of town sitting at golf course crossing. Derail train has 3 locos. Can't get very close. Police and fire on scene. Can't see if hulcher is here yet

Sounds like Amtrak may be sending a few trains up through Michigan. Stay tuned.

Report from the field:

The derailment happened in the middle of the CP 320 crossover. The westbound 21Q was crossing over from #2 track to #1 track and derailed. Currently both mains are blocked and most of the cars are on the south side of CP 320 between the signals. It appears the derailment happened on the head-end of the train.

Hulcher arrived around 11 PM and has started to cleanup the derailment. Also, 21Q's power departed west. Expect reroutes from this derailment and about 24 hours before things will move again.

Nice Cass. I have Z00224 from Willard to at least Garrett, should be all the way to Chicago. CSX Computer says its NS 21824 but that dont make any sense. Only shows NS 9195 for power no cars. Past Short line in Cleveland. I am on duity at 06:30.

I too heard rumblings of Amtrak being re-routed thru Michigan, at least they mentioned 29--don't know about 49 though.

If they do, the Amtrak photobugs will have a good day with re-routes and 353 having a P32 on their train.

Wonder if they'll do a combination of reroutings again, such as CSX, Michigan, and last time 22K went NKP to Bellevue and then up to Sandusky and over that way. It'll be interesting and this calls for a day off work! I'll be out and about, probably railfanning the Willard Sub.

A combined 29/49 (29 leading) went up the Detroit line around 0745 this morning and 30 went east from Toledo around 0830 after having run the Detroit routing with 48 somewhere about an hour behind him.

Track 1 is complete through the derailment site, but there are still ballast and alignment issues. Track 2 is missing just west of the crossover for a few hundred feet. There are stacks of JB Hunt containers south of the right-of-way. The best view is from Brunell Street which is east of the derailment.

Adding lead unit in Kzoo for the rest of the run through MI, should be there now or very soon.

Geez...isn't this like 3 derailments for the NS in a couple of weeks in Ohio. Someone better send the FRA out for an audit.

Couldn't resist...seems like if there is a CSX derailment the typical "CSX needs too keep their track up better" comes out. Too bad people don't realize NS has just the same number of derailments...

Practice Safe CSX

NS needs to keep up their track better. Use MAW as a role model.
