Q195: New Train

Unread post by cbehr91 »

Currently there is a Q195 heading southbound on the CSX Scottslawn Secondary with BNSF 6892 leading. I presume this train is a result of the new phase of North Baltimore?

BNSF Chicago to Columbus with a stop at North Baltimore.

Sounds like one of those trains that will use the soon to be built connection at Galatea in the future. I presume right now it goes to Fostoria, south down the C&O to Marion, then west on the Big Four to Ridgeway before turning south to Columubus.

Thanks, I was wondering if it would end up using the Galatea connection in the future, if it was a C&O train now.
Have a good one!

BNSF 6892 is a Santa Fe Blue Bonnet SD40-2, if that number is right, I'm gonna drive over to Buckeye Yard right now to see if it's still sitting there. Anyone know what train this power will return on? The CSX list says there is already a Q196, Q195 seems to be another misnomer as an odd numbered EB train.

I think it's a GEVO. The SD40-2s that are left on BNSF are in a lower number series like 1500-1700.

EDIT: After doing some checking, it's actually a GEVO that has been on the road less than 2 months. It's just a pup. :)

You're exactly right Cory. BNSF 6892 is a newly numbered ES44, the other engine is BNSF 7244, also a newly numbered ES44. I just got back from Buckeye Yard and they were sitting there with their train ready to go. They just called the dispatcher for permission through CP Buckeye & CP Darby, believe he said the train was Q147. Maybe they are combining Q146 & Q195 into one train for the return to Chicago, not exactly sure, but we'll have to keep tabs on this new train. Either way, I'm excited for BNSF run through power in Columbus!

Both trains are separate and of course are running at night. Actually, I've heard the new Q146 all times of the day but more often than not it runs at night - very different than the old Q146 which was a guaranteed morning southbound on the Scottslawn.

Q-195 was the symbol of the seasonal UPS train out of Columbus after Thanksgiving.

Sounds like Q195 will just be a once a week train, arriving in Columbus on Friday or Saturday

Should be mostly Honda parts for their build up to full production next week.

Saturday night while at the CRHS Marion RBQ, I witnessed a single stack intermodal train come straight south on the C&O line(this was after 11pm), anyone know what train that was? Lead engine was CSXT 7701 IIRC.

Wasn't CSXT 7701, but may have been Q13030 as that passed through Marion about 10:30pm.

That had to be Q130 in Marion, Q130/139 are the only intermodals that have ever run on the C&O, and they just started this summer.

Per Trainorders, there were pics posted of BNSF power on Q196 which runs Chicago-North Baltimore, so Q195 & Q196 are both EB BNSF trains, but I have yet to figure out what the return trains are. Gonna be even harder if CSX redoes all the intermodal symbols effective today.

There's not a counterpart to Q195 at this point. It's just extra traffic coming into Columbus. FWIW Honda parts are usually in red K Line containers.
