B&O CPL's on the New Castle Sub

Unread post by GP30M4216 »

What are the status of the old B&O color position signals on the CSX New Castle Subdivision east of Greenwich, OH? Last summer around this time they were still in place going east from Greenwich diamond. Just curious to know if they are still in place on this stretch. How much traffic does this subdivision get these days?

Where is (or was, if that is the case) the signal in the picture?

Wow, that's really sad. I'm so glad I made a follow-up trip out to see these signals last summer, after finding them more or less by accident in the spring of 2009. I was really hoping for an eastbound (both photos look west), but waited for several hours and none came. Glad I got the "going-away" westbound shots though....ALWAYS take that photo!! You'll be so glad you did! That's really too bad they've been replaced, these were easy to see from a public crossing and in a great spot. I don't know what the symbol was of the coke train in this photo.

The pair in the above photos is (was) just west of the Township Road 1461, which is a mile or two east of US-250. Another pair were located on a high embankment immediately to the east of US-250. The first time I visited this spot, in 2009, I saw CSX local D753 come west through here....more going away shots by the signals, but I'll have to dig them out.

Warwick down near Clinton, OH, correct?

Yes, Warwick is near Clinton...

About the last bastion of CPL's in Ohio are pockets of signals on the New Castle Sub (which are falling fast though), the Toledo Subdivision (including Deshler) and the Cincy Terminal trackage.
