Fostoria railfan park status?

Unread post by TomCat4680 »

I'm going to Fostoria for the first time this weekend! :) Is the "railfan park" complete/open to the public yet? All of the sources I've found about it are from September and October.

Thanks, I won't waste my time looking for it then. So from what I've gathered the best place to railfan there is the Amtrak station? Anywhere else that's public property that I won't get harassed by the police?

The future railfan park. You can pretty much hang around anywhere in Fostoria and not be harassed by police, just stay out of the area around F Tower.

Just like Magnum said! The old B&O depot is nice but you miss the traffic on the C&O. If you have lawn chairs just go to the future park and hang out there and you will get all the action!

Definitely go to where the railfan park will eventually be. We always hangout there and have never been harassed by anybody. Just be aware of your surroundings like you would anywhere else. Yes, the depot location is nice but as others have said you miss the C&O action from there. If they ever get the railfan park done it should really be nice. We'll have to wait see on that. Really SLOW going on that. But, don't let that stop you from railfanning at the future park.

So I got to Fostoria at about 11:30 or noon yesterday and found a spot on Columbus Ave right by the NS tracks that went across it and a CSX mainline and a wye, (and I think the F tower?)T here was a picnic table and port a potty and a few other guys. I probably saw 25-30 trains in the 6 hours I was there (and from what I read thats the slow time of day!)

Anyways, is this where the future railfan park is supposed to be? If not, I thought it was a pretty good spot. :) I'm in town til tomorrow too. :)

I'm guessing this is supposed to be a rhetorical question?
Some railfans are more introverted than others.

That sounds like Ellen, she's the unofficial spokesman for FRPS and does the majority of the promotion work for them.

Here she is at the 2011 Lansing MRC show promoting the Fostoria Railfan Park at the MSU Pavillion on 11/20/11.

Does she have a husband that approaches railfans as well? I've never seen her in my several times at Fostoria, though there was a time some guy showed up and gave me a bunch of fliers and whatnot, saying it was from his wife.

It sounds like the park would be a nice place to sit and watch the trains go by.
