I&O Passenger Train Northbound- Toledo Sub/DT&I Sub

Unread post by CG Tower »

I&O/RailAmerica is running an inspection train northbound today. I am assuming he's headed to Flat Rock. Power is I&O painted 4034 and one car, the C&O observation, "Chapel Hill". Here are a few photos:

Columbus Grove (though the water tower would have given that away) and North Ottawa, time was around 9:15 or so...if he is moving along, he may be up at Delta by now.

I give this a big WTF....I was IN Carleton today waiting to hopefully catch the I&O 401/400, and then I had to be back at 1. I didn't know this guy was coming up! I hope someone gets to see him... and gets some photos! If anyone has any updates, please post for the rest of us! Nice photos 8)

What a dissapointment,

I went down to Flatrock hoping to see this guy. Wasted several hours of my day and gas. Turns out he went up the Ann Arbor, the passenger car that is.

Oh well, this is why railroading sucks in michigan... argh

Saw a dumb CN freight, decided to delete video on the way home.

Makes me wonder if it was a positioning move for possible excursions later.

With Rail America officials aboard? Doubtful...if it was just a passenger car move, they'd tacked the car on the back of a freight and not run a dedicated train for it.

Are we sure it went to Ann Arbor?

I think the truth is someplace in between...

The reason, RA is going public, before banks will underwrite it, I am sure they wanted to see the property. So while it may be a private charter, it had a specific purpose for RA to show off their facilities. Plus, at least on RA official was identified aboard.

It left Norwood OH on the 10th, will spend 6 days in a resort town and will return to McCullough Yard on the 25th. Trust me, it's a private charter.

Either way, it's a darn nice car:

Since I do not know you, I have nothing to base "trust" on with your insight. So being one that keeps an open mind, I will note this is one possible scenario! :-) The trouble with this thing called the internet is that a degree of mystery exists with everyone. Who knows, I cold be the president of Rail America. :-)

He is one of the best sources we have. I also from two other sources heard the same thing. Still could have had a "dual" purpose, but defiantly heading north and on the AA.

So if it left on the 10th and went North through here on the morning of the 11th and is returning to origin on the 25th does that make Monday the 24th a potentially good day to look for a Southbound on through Ann Arbor and on the I&O? 8)

The rift on whether or not RA officials on board is due to the fact that the I&O isn't allowed to operate private charters on the Midland Sub or Lima-CG CSX trackage (part of the lease and trackage rights agreement). So to make the move look legit, the impression is thrown out that some sort of RA officials from Jacksonville are on the car. Were there RA officials on the move? Doesn't really matter, but that's what crews on the Midland Sub were told to explain why the 401 was routed that way with the Chapel Hill on the rear. Made for an in interesting move Monday and will again on the 25th.
