Drag race out of Walbridge
Drag race out of Walbridge
I'd been meaning to try a shot off the Turnpike of a train coming out of Walbridge - well, this last Sunday I got treated to a two train "race" out of the yard that I couldn't have planned much better:

Re: Drag race out of Walbridge
I picked the wrong train. I thought the one with 5 engines would win.
PatC created a monster, 'cause nobody wants to see Don Simon no more they want AARR I'm chopped liver, well if you want AARR this is what I'll give ya, bad humor mixed with irrelevant info that'll make you roll your eyes quicker than a ~Z~ banhammer...

Awesome catch there, MDH! How many round trips between exits did that take?
I've been considering attempting a similar shot there for a while now, but I'm not sure I'd want to risk a ticket!

BITD I used to catch "drag races" at Porter on CR.
A couple of weeks ago I caught one of two east bounds at Rochelle, IL on UP.

I've watched Q135 and Q500 drag race out of Deshler 3 different times, but only got pictures once.

Great shots Zack!
Fostoria can be good for stuff like that from time to time - I've also seen similar situations at Vickers (generally on the CSX side). Earlier this week there were no less than 3 trains sitting south of the diamonds waiting on NS (a local, light power and Q322) and as soon as they got the light they pretty much all started moving although the light power quickly zipped north while the local ran slower going wrong main and Q322 had to wait for the light power to get one block ahead to really start going.
All I can say is "right place, right time" but a scanner sure helps get you there!

Great shot, Michael! That's some pretty lucky timing for sure, especially with Q231 running late enough to even be in close cahoots with Q396.MDH wrote:I'd been meaning to try a shot off the Turnpike of a train coming out of Walbridge - well, this last Sunday I got treated to a two train "race" out of the yard that I couldn't have planned much better:

None of those are drag races! (Just kidding) Wish I was old enough to witness a "drag race" out of Englewood between the 20th Century and the Broadway Limited.
I used to get paid for doing what all of you like to watch!

Hey Hogger, did you ever work out of Livernois?? Reason I ask is, some of the oldheads I work with said the guys used to race outta Townline to Wayne Jct. and who ever got there first would get the signal at Ypsi.

Re: Drag race out of Walbridge
One of the only races I've ever gotten a photo of is pictured here in Plymouth:

"Racing" east through Plymouth, CSX GP38-2 #2669 with local job D717 is passed by GP38-2 #2522 which has just come around the wye from Flint with D736, and is just passing a C&O era speed marker.
Michael - your shot from the Toll Road bridge is fantastic. Love how you included the trains going into the distance with the C&O signals in the background, too.
