NS Sandusky District Symbols South of Bellevue

Well, I'm trying to keep track of symbols on NS's Sandusky District south of Bellevue and south of Colsan. I don't get over there much, but these are what I have heard and was interested in any input anyone had.

EB:
26N, #379, #218, #234, #186, #304, 18M, #117, 12V, (#169 south of Colsan)

WB:
23N, #217, #233, #305, 17M, #116, 15V, and I heard a #189 on Saturday, but don't know anything about it. #170 south of Colsan.

This is all I can come up with minus the many coal trains, empties, and ML moves.

You've got a relatively complete list there. There are however some coal trains that run on that line like 864, 866 and 869 but obviously run as needed.

This is an incomplete list of what runs through Columbus on the line. All that would be missing through Bellevue would be if anything goes west to north at Colsan:

26N, 188, 194, 304, 169, 179, 379, 186, 423, 218, 234, 18M, 185, 17M, 189, 305, 116, 376, 60T, 25N and 170

There are also many commodity trains that are obviously unscheduled (grainers, coal trains, etc). 17 and 18M also have extra sections known as M7M and M8M that have been pretty common as of late. I've hear an I34 (that's the letter "i") from time to time which would be an extra 234.

This is by far the busiest line through Columbus and usually is the bigger player in Marion from an observation standpoint.

117 was abolished around February and its traffic was put on trains 179 and 169. 375 still runs, only west of Columbus
180 runs from Chattanooga to Bellevue. 274 still runs as well as extra rack trains 29V and 29N. 856 and 857 are coke trains. and we must not forget about 86W a coal train with UP power that runs south somewhere.

Thanks for the info. I was unaware that 179 and 180 still ran. I also used to hear a 25N a few days a month from Feb-April. I know the symbols are way down from what they were 5 years ago.

yes 25N is still out there as well. now i can't remember if was 179 or 117 that was abolished. i'm almost posiive it was 117, and i threw away my railroads illustrated magazine

If I was to see a NS stack train ahead of 218, containers fairly good lenght, mostly single with a few double, who would that be.

Oh yes, I forgot about 405 and 406. I have a few logs from Attica in 2000 I'll have to dig up. I do also have 2 all-nighters at Attica in 2001, and I want to go back and look at the NS symbols. Seems like decades ago.

that is an impressive list. even we don't have that good of a list of the ns trains that roll through our neck of the woods.

Good info....thanks. Also seen on NS of late through Marion were 53R (NB), 376 (NB) freight (have never seen or heard this one before, as well as 852. Is 53R a 2nd section of something ?

Also have heard that the heartland corridor is to open in Sept. / Oct. of this year with 6 new trains south of Columbus on NS, 3 north (west) and 3 south (east) from Norfolk to or from Columbus. Tunnels must be near completion ? Any news on this ? Any trains that would complement or tie in with them that would be added from the north, that being coming down from Chicago or elsewhere through Bellevue and Marion to Columbus ? Columbus to be the hub and spoke out from there.

Don't forget 16K that ran south of Bellevue for a short while, as well as 17R.
