Was heading home last night and Saw a single NS unit leading a short train with a car on the rear that looked very much like a caboose on the NS Dearborn division east of Toledo. Any answers to what it migh have been? :?

most likely a shoving platform, used when there are no turning facilities or a long reverse move is necessary to do a job. Jou also may have seen one of these

A transfer caboose, used as a caboose/ shoving platform
