Cuyahoga Valley Railroad
I have a couple of questions:
1. Do they ever run the RDCs?
2. I saw the wine train this fall it had a caboose on the back instead of an engine, normally I have seen an engine on each end. Is this something new.
Thanks

Re: Cuyahoga Valley Railroad
1) From what I know about the CVRR, they normally run with the ALCOs, FPA-4, RS18. They habe other ALCOs and MLW engines on the roster that I have seen pictures of pulling trains, and there roster does show that they have 2 RDCs. They would probably run the RDCs on less busy days or even maybe could run them as extra trains during busy days if they needed to... thats my guess with the RDCs anyway.
2) that is an ex CN [possibly remote] caboose
From what i saw it looks like they can use it if they need to shove a train, for inspections, or just to have a caboose. Also looks like it is used on the North Pole express train that they run.

Thanks, I have been on the railroad a few times, I just have never seen the RDCs, even at the shop for a night photo shoot that they put on when 765 was there a couple of years ago. In looking at google earth, it looks like they keep them north of the northern most station.
Would love to see them.

I've seen a few recent pics of them using a black LTEX GP15 as well.

They were running that when I was there for the steam in the valley.
When I went back in October, they were back to running all Alcos. They had the B&O FA unit running and a non cab unit. The wine train had, I believe the RS 18.

Re: Cuyahoga Valley Railroad
I had heard the FL-9 was gone, it seems like I was told that the did not own it anyway.
I can't remember where I heard it went.

Plan is to get rid of everything except the GP15's. They also have a Genset, which will stay.

Re: Cuyahoga Valley Railroad
They got a GP30 and a GP35 not to long ago, dont kill the Alcos just yet you maybe surprised...
Re: Cuyahoga Valley Railroad
Alco's aren't particularly worse than other older power in that regard and the mechanical parts needed to keep them running are readily available last I remember hearing. So Y@ heard some roundhouse rumors from one employee or volunteer but I'd be surprised if the organization decided to ditch their historic roster all together and run Larry's rent a wrecks exclusively. However I make no claims to having any inside knowledge on it.YpsiAmtrakBoy wrote:source and why? The Larry's crap on the property does make me considerably less inclined to go shoot it though...

I have more than one source with the CVSR. They don't want the Alco's. They don't like them. They will be gone soon.

Are the RDC's gone?
Re: Cuyahoga Valley Railroad
Well, if that's the case, it's a real shame.Y@ wrote:I have more than one source with the CVSR. They don't want the Alco's. They don't like them. They will be gone soon.

FL9 Went to Canada If I recall correctly. It sat in the C&O yard in fostoria for the longest time before leaving.Goldenspike wrote:I had heard the FL-9 was gone, it seems like I was told that the did not own it anyway.

The FL-9 went here.
Orford Express (Class FL9)
In the end of 2012, Orford Express dinner train, which is based in Sherbrooke, Quebec, expanded its roster with ex-New Haven FL9 2009 (now numbered 484) from Ohio's Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
I still would like to know about the RDC's
