Everything/Anything CF&E thread...Part 3

Unread post by bnsf8000 »

4/25/13. EB LIFW through Van Wert at 7:55AM. Leading were CORP 4023/CFE 3882 pulling 52 cars. In the train were 24 covered hoppers: mostly NOKL; plus CSYX, CRIX; 10 loaded steel/bulkheads from Steel Dynamics: TTX, SSW and LRS; 10 box cars: 5 TTX, 3 CN, 1 NS and 1 CRLE; 4 loaded gons. Trains are still creeping through Van Wert. Maybe the diamond in town. Saw Atlas RR Construction working there I believe it was yesterday. Been creeping through town for awhile now. Once they clear slow order they start notching up.

Midland, still no action at the Scott Equity elevator from Valero. Hope they do start getting some empty grain hoppers in. Hasn't been anything loaded there in awhile. It would also beef up the LIVW when it comes into town.

Looks like the last LIVW that worked in town also worked the Van Wert Terminal per avanwerty's video. Nice catch Scott on the LIVW. Like seeing it no matter how many cars it is. 8)

Continue to work the VW Supersite RR grade that will go out to there. Will be neat to see PR Tech get their switch put in as part of this project. Be interesting when they bring in the girders for the bridge also. Hopefully, PR Tech will start using there siding right away for scrap?

I saw the LIFW on my way home from work and was bummed to see it had long gone by the time I returned from Celina. 4023 eludes me, its been running 6 months or so and I still have not gotten any shots of it leading. Seen it many times though.

Valero had the ethanol plant virtually shut down for about four or five months. It hasn't been in full production for quite some time until recently. Maybe sometime this spring or summer you'll see them selling corn to Valero again.

Glad they are finally moving forward on building out to the supersite. Hopefully it lands something.

4/25/13. Your ship came in around 10:55PM! 8) I mean train alittlevanwerty! 8) Tonight's LIFW was MAMMOTH! Including four 6 axle engines. Guess what was leading the charge! CN 5659 a SD75I! In charge were CN 5659/CSX 7383/CSX 5383/ CSX 5227 lugging 136 cars! The LIFW part of the train was 46 cars and also a 90 car unit train. Consisted of 28 grain cars: CSYX, BNGX, FURX, AEX among other others; 7 MTY steel flats/bulkheads: TTX, LRS; 8 loaded gons 2 plastics hoppers: UNPX [Procor] and CRIX and 1 tank car: GATX and the back end of the train was 90 car unit train of CSX grain hoppers: mostly box car logo, a few CSX grain express and some other CSX grain hoppers. Train was way down the tracks when I crossed the tracks at Wayne St. For whatever reason the chase was on! Actually caught it just west of Middle Point. The road was what Huggy Bear Campground is on. Been down that road many times and should know the name of it. Then I drove back to Van Wert and caught it at the Fisher Ave. crossing. The slow order allowed that. The train was already crossing Wayne St. when I came into town. Sometimes chases are well worth it and this was.

Friday I was on the south end of Lima and I had 2 choices. The CSX Y101 was getting clearance to run ot the south Lima yard at the same time the CF&E was getting their track warrant for the LIVW. I chose the LIVW and finally had got my video of 4023 leading. I shot it at 6 locations between Elida and Van Wert Terminal before it was time to go home. Enjoy!

Congrats on getting the 4023. Another one you can cross off the list. :D Eventually, you'll be able to get G&W orange. Are the CFE 3880, 3882, 3883 and 3886 still around CF&E. Last time I knew the CFE 3884 was around I&O at Lima. Have you caught the CFE 3884 on the CFE between Lima and Fort Wayne?

I have never caught 3884 on the CF&E, just on the I&O. 3883 seems to be based out of Warsaw or someplace on the west end. 3880, 3886 & 3882 still hanging around.

The 3884 is now assigned to the I&O. You might catch in Lima at some point. I saw 3880 a couple of times in the I&O, but its been several years. Never saw the 3881 before it went south or the 3882 on the I&O. The 3885 usually worked on the I&O before it blew up and then ended upon Michigan.

5/1/13. WB LIFW at 11:52PM through Van Wert with SCRF 6415/CFE3880 hauling 34 cars. 33 covered hoppers: ALHX, CGLX, ADMX, CSYX, BNGX, FURX and TILX and 1 loaded bulkhead of steel.

Was told the bridge girders for the RR bridge over Town Creek are at the bridge site as part of the VW supersite project.

It was 76 cars and made it to Van Wert by 10pm. I hope to have the video up tomorrow but that's if the computer doesn't crash! I'm off all week, got 7 videos to upload now and probably will have 25 by Thursday.

5/8/13. Just through Van Wert at 9:16AM at the Jefferson St. crossing with CSX 325/54 leading 61 cars. All of train was Bunge related grain hoppers: AEX, CSYX, FURX, BNGX and NDYX. Don't know if this was the LIFW or not. Hey, avanwerty did a LIFW run last night or was this it or an extra?

So, I guess we can expect the LIVW in town in awhile. 2 trains in a few hours: the CF&E's on fire today! :D 6415/3880 roll it into town please. Last week the LIVW ran out to CSP with an engine on each end. Came back from CSP with an engine on each end and 1 hopper in between. May be a new operating practice for the LIVW/CF&E. on some locals. Should work good for them if it is. Just like RJ Corman.

I never saw/ heard the LIW last night. May have ran after midnight I suppose. If an engine on each end is their new practice I figure we won't see any more 1 loco LIVW's :D

5/8/13. LIVW in Van Wert around 11:45AM. As avanwerty said SCRF 6415 leading with 9 cars with CFE 3880 bringing up the rear. Looks like 6 cars from the Van Wert Terminal: 5 FMLX and 1 TILX covered hoppers from soda ash transload and 3 NAHX covered hoppers for CSP in VW.

Already 4 covered hoppers for CSP by Anderson Ave. near Scott Equity. Have to see how many they take out to CSP today on the old CN spur.

As of today around 12noon there were 7 covered hoppers at the VW Terminal and 6 bean oil tank cars from Bunge . 2 of the covered hoppers are out by the county road and looks like the nearest one has RMGX reporting marks. Those 2 have been there for some weeks now.
