Colorado Coal on the Indy Line
Colorado Coal on the Indy Line
CSX will be receiving on the average of one loaded coal train a day from the UP at St Louis. Trains will be bound for Newport News Virginia for export. Ridgeway to Columbus and then on the former C&O to Virginia will be the routing of these new trains. Twenty empty trainsets have been placed in service to start. Some trains will operate via Chicago and Fostoria Ohio due to train capacity issues on UP and CSX. Nothing will operate via Cincinnati due to the usual bottleneck there .

Have these been running as U765/E417? There was a U765 that ran down the Scottslawn on Christmas Eve.

Low water on the Mississippi River causing all kinds of traffic changes on the railroad as good normally shipped by barge now is being sent by rail.

Re: Colorado Coal on the Indy Line
After the initial rush of about 6 of these before Christmas, I haven't heard one of these in the past week. There was an E417 the went west after Christmas but that is the only one since.

Re: Colorado Coal on the Indy Line
Operations at Avon were told to expect 2 trains a week, running within a few hours of each other. Had a flurry of trains when they first started running, but haven't had one since before Christmas now. Had an empty hopper train come out of St. Louis for the KY coal fields yesterday, so I'm thinking they sent too many trainsets west. Interestingly enough, UP has been using CSX 900's on these trains, and using them with a UP DP unit.

Re: Colorado Coal on the Indy Line
A couple of years back there was a UP powered train that headed west down the Indy Line symbolled "EO65". Back when the bullsheet was operable, I read that the train was an empty hopper symbol heading back to Colorado...where the train was coming from is anyones guess.

Well...as fast as they appeared, they disappeared. Haven't seen one of these since the first of the year through Avon...
Other Indiana coal moves are booming though...
