April 8, 2012 (GARY, Ind.) (WLS) -- Fire officials in Gary say they are on the scene of a freight train derailment at Miller and Hobalt roads.

According to the Chicago Tribune, two eastbound train engines collided, and dozens of train cars were scattered off the tracks in the Miller neighborhood.

The Gary Fire Department Battalion tells the Tribune one person suffered a broken leg.

The cause of the derailment was not known Sunday morning.

I assume it must be near Doc Siding (South Shore interchange), where US 12 passes over CSX, just outside of Miller. That's where Miller Ave and Old Hobart Rd (not Hobalt ;) ) are.
Looks like WGN has the spelling right:

Gary Fire Department Battalion Chief Donald Williamson said two engines traveling east collided with each other, apparently because of faulty switch gear, near Old Hobart Road and Miller Avenue.

My source was in Garrett and said it was "about to hit the fan anyway", so posting was not going to make a difference either way.

Yes, sounds like someone made an oops! Red signals mean stop, but if Q010 was running on clears and CSS&SB fouled, kinda hard to stop without warning! Here goes the argument for PTC.

You guys are on top o' everything. I wanted to post at 9ish but the source I had means I shouldn't do it. But the cats outta the proverbial bag now.
Now well get a safety blitz telling us all about the red signal and what it means. OMG!

Unless the CSS&SB train fouled by mistake. I don't know, wasn't there...Q-010 could have been on clear blocks and had someone foul in front...again, don't know...also hearing of a "switch malfunction", so perhaps it was possible for there to be an error in hardware too.

Two GRP crews DHing at 1100 for Chitown. One train out of Toledo, Q389, on the schedule for GRP right now also.
Might be an interesting eveining and Monday AM for some trains up here in the Mitten.

It sounds like the South Shore train derailed while being shoved and Q010 was unlucky enough to plow in to the mess.

Mainframe is wrong, photos prove it. CSS was backing into Miller Siding from the WEST like standard procedure. CSS empty coal train derailed or somehow fouled the main, Q010 came around the corner and hit them. It happened near the hand throw at the west end. No signals involved.

Q389 is a manifest, correct?

Another coal train is heading east too, N903-08. Thru St Joe a little while ago. Is there a train at Kirk too? (or is that where N903-08 is going?) Yesterday afernoon, there were coal trains parked at Grand Jct and Wells, Gross was empty.
