I got a 404 from your link.
"I shot the freight train / But I did not shoot the fantrip"
Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
a couple updates/corrections:
271/270 termintate at Savanna...in other words they are on the Chicago Sub for about 3 miles and that's it...they are Savanna to Mason City trains...usually depart Savanna in the morning wb and depart Mason City eb in the middle of the night...a LOT of factors going on here....
273/272 are now Bensenville to Nahant trains...273 leaves Bensenville around noon or later westbound and 272 is called at Savanna around the same time...so one train is in GREAT light arcoss Illinois while the other one not so much...once at Savanna there is a local crew that cabs up from Nahant to take 273 south and brings 272 north later...his symbol is B63 (the old L918 job)....
L920 (B65) and L929 (B64) were abolished in early April...I'm assuming that 273 and 272 do all the switching enroute now from Bensenville to Savanna...L923 was cut a while back too...they had L920/B65 called at Davis for 1630 hrs during the winter months after L923 was cut...the Beloit Local (L922/LBL/B66) is indeed a Mon-Fri job called at 0630hrs not sure which days they go north to Janesville and which days they go down to Davis Jct....
As far as the other trains (grain/ethanol/potash/coal) I have yet to hear of them taking the CP...but I wouldn't doubt that is eventually the plan...it just makes more sense....
Another note to self is that the old MCCHU/MHUCC (Clearing Yard to Huron, SD) that used to take the ICE from Clearing to Owatonna, MN and jump on the DME for the rest of the trip...a version of this trian is now running on the CP across Wisconsin...487/486 are usually daylight candidates anywhere from Bensenville to Portage, WI (not to mention they are running with Blue and Yellow as well!)...and also on that note the only "ICE/DME" trains that make it east of Bensenville anymore are unit trains bound for the BRC (ethanol/grain/potash/coal)....

Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
Double checked the link. Yes, no "l" on the end. Hope it now comes up. Tried to type in the destinations but it tooks several minutes and when I clicked to submit the topic when finished it says I was not connected. There must be a time limit when typing a new topic. Notice that www.illinirail.com is the homepage and IC&E webpage is a category to it.
Ever since the takeover, CP seems to have trouble making up their minds how to handle their trains on the ex-ICE and DME lines.

Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
Thanks for posting that list, Jeff! I've been looking for the new ethanol symbols for a while.
Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
Effective Aug., L929(B64-SavannaLocal) and L920(B65-DavisJct.Local) are abolished.
Trains 270 & 271 are running between Mason City and Bensenville again.
270 runs out of Mason City to Bensenville Mon.thru Sat. and 271 runs out of Bensenville to Mason City Wed.thru Sun.
All 4 manifest trains 270,271,272, & 273 set off and/or pick up cars at Davis Jct.
An ethanol train runs 1 train in each direction on a daily schedule.

Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
Things seems to get worse on the ex-ICE Chicago sub. Effective mid-Jun. #270 & #271 are abolished leaving #272 & #273 as the only manifest trains left plus a unit ethanol train each way. Who's knows what CP's next move will be for this line.

Great info. Thanks Jeff.
Are the trains that are being removed from ICE being transferred to other CP lines?

Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
It looks like #270 & #271 are back to MMCSV & MSVMC with cars for Chicago will travel via Marquette to be dropped off in La Crescent,WI where they will be picked by another CP train on the Portage sub. Additional train hauling Chicago cars are #474 & #475 running between Mason City and Marquette(MMCMQ)and(MMQMC), which were formally MMCKC & MKCMC. Also, Marquette now has locals B52 and B53. New ethanol trains #6?? & #6??, EDQCC & ECCDQ has been added on the Chicago sub running between Chicago and Dubuque.

Seeing too many CITX leased units. Now they're starting to run NREX units.

Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
They have CITX, CEFX, NREX, FURX and now even HLCX SD40-2s on lease. Many of the ones that have recently turned up on the CP are still in almost full BN paint with just minor patches. At least one unit in SP paint has been leased to the CP as well, so they are quite a colorful railroad right now. You can see any of these leasers mixed in with CP, IC&E, DM&E and SOO power on the old IC&E nowadays.
I say let them keep leasing the stuff, the variety of colors is excellent and the heritage of these leased units is incredible diverse!

Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
As of Aug 12', trains 588 & 589 running between Chicago and Savanna have been discontinued. Their trains will now be picked up and pulled by trains 272 & 273 that run between Chicago and Nahant.
Manifest: 272 273
Grain: 363 368
Ethanol: 605 606 631 632 633 634 642 643 644 645
Points of interest: It is still jointed rail between Adeline and Savanna. The roadbed that runs under CN's Freeport Sub in Genoa was lowered 4 feet. Possible autorack & stack train to run between Chicago and Kansas City.

What time of day do the 272 / 273 typically traverse the Savanna - Davis Jct part of their run these days?Jeff L wrote:As of Aug 12', trains 588 & 589 running between Chicago and Savanna have been discontinued. Re: CP/ICE train #s on ICE Chicago Sub
The current plan for 272/273 is for the crew that comes out of Savanna on the 272 to turn back out of Bensenville right away on the 273. Lately, 272 is departing Savanna between 0630 and 0730, getting to B-ville around 1100 or 1200. 273 then is "supposed" to be out of Bensenville between 1300 and 1400. In practice the last couple weeks, 273 has ended up being recrewed at B-ville and not departing until around 1700 several times.MDH wrote:What time of day do the 272 / 273 typically traverse the Savanna - Davis Jct part of their run these days?Jeff L wrote:As of Aug 12', trains 588 & 589 running between Chicago and Savanna have been discontinued.
