Two trains at work - GR 10/26/06

Unread post by Justin »

Working third shift at Toys R Us today over by Kentwood I heard two trains. First was at 3:00 AM and the second was at 6:00 AM. I am just curious as to which trains they are. I am taking a guess based on some research that the first one was maybe Q334 and the second one was maybe X500 the CP trains. This one I have more confidence on because I recognized the horn. Well thats my guess. Tell me if I am wrong.
My train pictures can now be found at:

Q326 10-26-06

Unread post by ~Z~ »

It wasn't an early Q326 either, as I saw them barreling east through Hudsonville at 8:45am today. At least I got time for a photo of them, even with them saying "East, clear a pair at Hudsonville"...... CSXT 787 up front, a grey leased 3000 series behind, and CSXT 2623 in third.

As a follow up on this, walking by the windows, saw the last 2 cars on another eastbound, empty cars, looked like empty coke hoppers... Really couldn't tell all that well, but went east at 11:30am. Ugg...wish I had the scanner here at work :)

Just a quick update from the lunch hour....

D802 was heard with a BNSF 9400 series engine at the west end of Wells...permission past the stop signal and ready to tack on to the rear of a loaded D803 to give them some helper service up the hill. They were getting ready to go up the hill with their coal as of 2:20pm.

Doc-
Thanks as always for your notes and insight. I appreciate the notes about the Wyoming Yard Limits as well. It's almost impossible to find real YARD LIMIT signs around these days, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough. (As a side note, though, I know there are signs designating the BO Secondary here in Kalamazoo as YARD LIMIT, from the Wye at BO down to the switch at Gibson.)

Does anyone know anything about the Hospital Train Donnieland mentions a couple posts up this thread. Anything at all... origin and destination, symbol, routing, loco numbers? Thanks!

hospital train

i used the term hospital train only because i was outside when they went
by and didn't hear what the crew called for signals or for permission by
the flagman at us 31 highway bridge at middle waverly.
it reminded me of a csx movement of cars from new buffalo yd earlier
this year, all cars were 89' hi cubes down to 50' regular boxcars and
all had turned a wheel or two over the years, same as the train in the
spring , so i called it a hospital train?

Zack, your 9400 series BNSF unit was 9452. I caught them putting their train back together at Wells after returning from shoving the other train up the hill.
Here they are pulling out of the siding.
