D&M RPO Car

Unread post by markvz »

Can anyone give me a brief history on this recently uncovered car?

I stopped by the depot in St. Johns today and took a look at it. One set of trucks is installed while the other end of the car is still sitting on the trailer. The car looks pretty well worn, and it looks like some thorough replacement of wood will have to take place in the restoration. The trucks were stenciled indicating that the bearings were last packed in 1960. When was this car built, and for how long has it been stashed away in the roundhouse in Tawas?

Also I was in Tawas a few days ago and there is nothing left of the roundhouse but the slab it sat on. The two British cars are sitting out in the open next to the Walmart. In a "touching" tribute to the fallen railroad shop facility, the new road that runs near where the roundhouse stood has been named "Roundhouse Rd."
