Hi JT - welcome to the board. You'll find the goof offs here to be a reasonable bunch and the shoutbox can be a regular party at times. I am from Dearborn and currently live in Kalamazoo, so I've spent a lot of time railfanning in the city. But sort of like you, I'm starting the discover the country side more. When I was younger I'd take train photos with my family up on the CSX line to Baldwin and Ludington, in the Manistee National Forest. Something nice about rolling fields and the general lack of the pesky cell phone tower rising up in the distance. Your photo of the BNSF's on the thornapple bridge is stunning, I wish mine turned out like yours!

I was going to suggest to you the Bangor/St Joe areas, but I know you've already found them :) Welcome aboard!

Engineer, Mike? Brakeman, Glen? I just wonder why the CSX and Conrail boxes are going toward Grand Rapids, thats Marne just past the 16th street crossing. I dunno , that was before I started there, the CSX is now up at the Delphi plant and the Conrail is by the engine house for storage.~Chris

Looks like JRV has some massive catching up to do to Jim and most of the other photographers on here :)

In all seriousness, welcome aboard JT. Kinda surprised you found the place from a photo of mine on railpictures.net. Looking forward to more around this neck of the woods!

Actually, they stopped in Marne before the C&M engine rolled back to Coop. I don't know what happened with the boxcars after that.

By the way, who is JRV?

Thanks, guys! :D

Welcome aboard and don't worry too much about the questions as I too ask alot. I have heard that a truly smart person or railfan will ask questions. BTW nice photos like those ones with the snow, brings out the beauty in Michigan. Enjoy this site, it is very friendly and most of us are here to help.

The two boxcars (CSX & CR) were purchased by the C&M from CSX. They are bad orders that were on the scrap track and purchased at scrap value price. They were (still are?) used for storage buildings. (Cheaper than building a pole building) One has a cracked center sill, the other one might too (CRS has hit:) )

I live in Westland very close to Newburgh yard just wondering best places and times to catch trains in my nearby area. I am also very close to the Wayne junction. Any advice or help appreciated. I do hear em all the time for sure. Thanks
