for jt and update east waverly

Unread post by donnieland »

for jt the y121 is working the hamilton spur at this time.

d801 9772 ld and 9789 trail was returned to waverly to pickup
hot cars not on 326's pickup, 326 was pumping air when cars
were noticed, d801 had the time to work the pickup, q326 would
have been to close to hos to go back and make the pickup.
d801 has a 7 car pickup and air test , then they will head to wyoming yard

D801 followed N956 to Grandville but then headed back to Holland to pick up the cars. They were going to go into the siding at Hudsonville to meet 326.

Believe it or not, I left my place at 12:10 (almost 20 minutes after your post) and caught up to them about half way between Holland and Hamilton while I was cruising down M-40. I live off of Lake Michigan Dr on the west side of GR, so I was surprised I was able to catch them. I guess the 5mph restriction must really take them a while to get there. Anyway...FIRST time EVER seeing a train going across the Hamilton trestle and I got pictures. Woohoo!

I posted this in the shout box, but wanted to post here too:
Saw a westbound CSX Coke train heading through Zeeland at 1:50pm. Didn't get a symbol as my broken coax decided not to get the transmission. New mag mount being ordered tonight.

Yeah, about the time you posted about them heading down to Hamilton, I heard on the scanner some chat about 357. I think they were preparing to leave. So on my way to Hamilton, I took Chicago Dr. thinking I'd pass them along the way...maybe near Hudsonville. No luck, but I DID see a maintenance truck driving down the tracks between Jenison and Hudsonville, so I figured they were going to wait until that cleared before leaving the Wyoming yard.

So, after I got the pictures in Hamilton, I headed back up to Holland and took Waverly Rd to Chicago drive and started heading back to GR...I caught 357 in Zeeland at that point, so I turned around and headed back to East Saugatuck. The sky had gotten pretty dark around that time, so the lighting was awful. I wanted to see how a train looked on this curve, so I took some shots anyway.

Can't wait to see updated pics from Hamilton Trestle, my hometown that I grew up in. Did you get pics after it switched and would be heading back north to Holland......that is a great view from the Park down by the River. Shots from the M-40 Bridge would be cool too :)

Looking forward to them.

Only got it going across, as I stood at the bank of the river directly underneath the M40 bridge. Here you go! IIRC, there were 11 cars in tow, including the caboose.

After they crossed, I drove over to watch them move cars around for a few minutes, and then I was on my way. Had to go hunt down 357. :)

Thanks JT. 11 Cars, quite a few for Hamilton as it usually is 3-5 cars.

Sometime, you'll need to catch the return going to Holland, Stand by the Gravel Parking area and you can catch the nose really well as well as the trestle.

Thank you for sharing!
