YES THE LS&I is very much indeed still running, Cleveland Cliffs the mining company owns it now, and it looks like they should be getting some new motive power in the future, but the mines needed a new drill so that came first, CN owns the WC tracks (biggest line the da UP) They operated from Trout Lake as far west at Munising, then from the Soo to Trout Lake to Gladstone to Escanaba to the Green Bay and beyond, between Gladstone and Escanaba the Ore Sub starts and heads right to Eagle Mills and interchanges with the LS&I and goes to Negaunee and Ispheming then branches up to Baraga (Bear-uh-ga) and La'Anse (Launce) for a few pulp sidings. The ELS is prolly the second biggest as far as trackage but not real big on trains, they do a lot of car repair and car repainting, as far as trains, the LS&I has the most, followed by the WC, then the ELS. The ELS goes to Escanaba and west. I don't know much about the ELS or West of Escanaba towards Iron Mtn, perhaps somebody else can help you out.

I could have sworn the Union Pacific ran track from Menominee, north to Powers, then west to Iron Mountain. The UP may not operate the track, but it is still there.

Vreeland Rail owns one locomotive, an SW-1 #600 and runs out of Ishpeming. They move cars for a mine and an explosives plant, or they used to anyhow.

Yep that was CNW later UP, then WC now CN, I don't follow anything other than Marquette County, and Gladstone to the Soo and the Newberry Sub.

Thanks Mike. I'm not slipping my mind after all. I was up there four years ago. This last summer I was in Superior, WI, but took the car ferry back across Lake Michigan.

Yep 2501 is a U25C built in 1964 in the Yellow schem, then repainted in 196-69 in the Maroon scheme The 2500 and 2501 were painted in the last and in my opinion the better of schemes: the Red Scheme in 1986. Both were retired in 1989. The current roster is:
U30C 300 3003-3006 (3006 was out of service for a bit I think its back in though) 3005-3001, 3051-3053

C30-7's are 3071-3074.

3000-3008 were built for BN in 1974
3009-3011 wer built in 1975 (3011 in later 1974)
3050-3053 built in 1974 as well. The last Alcos sadly left the property in the early 90's. They had a dead line with the Detroit Edison units and few U25s in Maroon laying around for parts but those are prolly cut up by now.
