Breaking News!! Durand Derailment

Channel 6 in Lansing is reporting a train derailment around Durand forcing evacuations.

SHIAWASSEE COUNTY (WJRT) -- (01/06/110)--Shiawassee County Central Dispatch is evacuating Durand Road south of the city limits; Pittsburgh Road from Durand to Reed Road; and Reed Road south between Pittsburgh and Prior due to a train derailment. Residents are being asked to move to Durand City Hall

I checked on all of my Flint/Saginaw stations and no one is scrolling any information or any scene reports. The Channel 12 website hasn't updated either. Any word on haz-mat, fire, etc.? I assume it's on the Flint sub of CN?

It was train 502 that put 8 or 10 cars on the ground.

As of now only ABC12.com is reporting the derailment. I checked the others including WLNS out of Lansing but couldn't find any further info.

WLNS is scrolling the information over the air on its broadcast....same information as WJRT web site.

I don't get WLNS on my cable. I assume some sort of haz-mat prompted the evacuation. Kind of like to know what leaked so I can look it up on our ERG book. I know a lot of nasty stuff goes thru that line.

Update: Per WSMH Fox 66 reporting command post is at Vernon Twp. Fire Dept. but still no info. what's been leaked.

Fox-47 out of Lansing just reported on its 10PM newscast that hydrochloric acid is leaking from a ruptured tank car and a cloud of gas is in the air...Crew is on the way to video scene.

WXYZ TV in Detroit had a live report on the news at 11pm. The cars were bound for Dow and were to be interchanged to the HESR in Durand.

Probably one of several reasons why she doesn't work at Channel 7 anymore...lol..Just watched WNEM-5..per their live shot the leak has been repaired and 7 of the cars are uprighted. They're still saying that Amtrak will be affected. The derail happened where there's double track so the news was saying they (Amtrak) might be able to work around it but won't know until later.

Don't be picking on Eric he's a railfan and has Covered many, many derailments in MI and stuff with 1225 before so he called CN the wrong name who cares he still called it CN for short!

Not picking on him I like the guy. But if he's reported "many, many derailments" then he should know the name. I watched him a couple times this morning and he kept getting it wrong. Just pointing it out..no biggie..
