Lansing Derailment

Unread post by astrofunk76 »

The Lansing State Journal is reporting a derailed car on MLK near Grand River:

Description seems to suggest this is on the JAIL-operated belt line (not CSX, which is further north).

LSJ is now saying there's a boxcar on its side...apparently on the CSX main, NOT the belt line.

Seems to be on CSX as you said, on the west end of Ensel Yard. Car is blocking Martin Luther King Blvd just north of Marquette St. Article with photo: http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/arti ... |FRONTPAGE

I love how they call it a boxcar when it's actually a grain hopper...

I was just at the west end of Ensel yesterday. Why couldn't this have happened then?

Is being a news reporter like having a license to be STUPID. Just while looking at the pic's, My 7 yr old walk's up and ask's, Hey what happened to that covered hopper? Is the media really that retarded? I've been called a "train driver". What the hell is a train driver? It's an Engineer you idiot!

Even though you could not tell the direction it was headed on the live shots seen on the 5pm news on WLNS, it looked to be perhaps G379-27 grain empty with CSX 8782 7737 on the head end, which went west through Howell a couple hours prior.

Any idea on if MQT will make a special, daylight run to get the grain cars (once the mess is cleaned up  )

Break buildup on wheel flange was cause. Very little track damage.

two hoppers stayed hooked together, the ones on MLK ,and one hopper lay between the main and the yardmasters shed -plop- missed touching it by feet - the engines and about 1500 feet of hoppers sat at the airport WB for most of the day- i saw hi-balls rolling by but didnt wait to see the cars moved to CSX property -last i saw the hoppers were laying on their side by the tracks
