There are gates at that crossing...driver must have gone around them to try to beat the train.

Anyone know the speed limit on the track there by any chance? Looks like another of those wrecks.....seems like a lot of them lately, unfortunately, most are fatal

Police cars at Millet Rd crossing...train stopped east of here.
They had a live reporter on the scene. Passengers are being taken to the East Lansing Amtrak Depot on Waverly School District buses. One passenger had minor injuries and was treated. Train was estimated by firechief to be traveling between 50-70 mph when it struck the car, killing the driver. Train pushed the car east a 1/4 mile before stopping. Estimates are another two hours before accident scene is cleared.

Nope, just got bored, decided to take a ride, only cost me $15 for the round trip from East Lansing to Chicago and back. I'll let the local media have their go at it and then I'll relate what happened after hearing the Engineer talking to the Dispatcher, talking to the crew, ect.

Lansing State Journal reports that the Chicago to Port Huron train was a westbound. I suppose if they put a picture of the train it would be an CN train pulling boxcars. (SW MI's Herald Palladium did that with a story about Amtrak about 20 yrs ago...they had a picture of a CSX freight train and the caption said it was an Amtrak passenger train. ..gotta love the media )Hogger1225 wrote:Nope, just got bored, decided to take a ride, only cost me $15 for the round trip from East Lansing to Chicago and back. Well, I don't know what happened, I just spent 20 minutes typing up what I saw and heard last night, details, ect, and tried to submit it, hit the submit button, and it didn't post. Not going through it again.

Re: Breaking News:Amtrak Accident in Eaton County
Ok, short version. Train doing 65 mph, (eastbound, unlike what one news source has already reported) dark out, crossing protection working, proper grade crossing whistle signal being sounded, idiot tries to beat the train, gets killed.
Longer version had everything else that the crew and passengers had to deal with.
Is there a limit on the length of a post? I've seen longer posts than what I tried to submit on here.

There are limitations with php coding that can cause your session to timeout, usually after 15 minutes of inactivity. If you are typing up something long, I always use notepad in Windows to type it, then just paste it into a message here. Alternatively, you can use the "save" button at the bottom of the message to save as you go, but I prefer the notepad route.

Thanks Z. Was just going to try and test that. Will attempt it one more time using that method. I do know it took me longer than that, correcting my typo's ect while doing it.
