Thanks for posting Mark. They must have left that center beam at Walton Junction this morning. They made pretty good time getting to TC as they came north through Fife lake about 930 this morning.

Re: GLC 398 in TC 3-30-12-photos
Heard it go by today so I went out to Bates and got a few pics of it at Amerhart.
Also saw Mark waiting and he was kind enough to let me know it was going to head to Williamsburg before heading back to TC so I waited and got a photo of it leaving Bates.
After it crossed M-72 I headed to Williamsburg and photographed the run around move, alongside Mark.
I found it very interesting how they got the car rolling then uncoupled and had the locomotive enter the siding and threw the switch for the car onto the main line. I ended up getting one last shot of the locomotive running long hood forward near the Airport Industrial Park in TC.

I have heard it called flying switch. Better have a nice sturdy rod if attempted incase it does not work and the car has to be nudged out of the path of the enginebctrainfan wrote:Help me out here train guys, isn't this manuever called the Flying Dutchman or something like that?

Re: GLC 398 in TC 3-30-12-photos
Looks like to me it is just a simple gravity drop. Notice in the one picture that the engine is sitting on the siding and the conductor is walking back to the car to release the hand brake and ride the car down past the clearance point; as it looks like a fairly good grade is at this location, should be a relatively easy move to do.
