New Power for the Huron & Eastern?
The long way home from the train show in Durand today, revealed two freshly painted locomotives on the Huron & Eastern at Wenona Yard in Bay City.
Neither unit had any visible reporting marks or identification.
The engine to the left of 8905 is HESR 5086. HESR 5492 is on the other side of 5086.
9519 and 8802 were the only power sitting up near the 'shop' building.

Word is 8905 and 5175 have been sold but it remains to be seen as to whom.

Are they freshly painted then, or just cleaned up to be sold?SD80MAC wrote:Word is 8905 and 5175 have been sold but it remains to be seen as to whom.

Report on the other board says they've been relettered for HESR.
How many CMGN units are left now, aside from 2014?

2014 and 8804 would be the last 2, then.MKT_fan11 wrote:Report on the other board says they've been relettered for HESR.

The 5175 and 8905 just have the HESR reporting marks and numbers on the cab now.
A couple of other engines were also re-lettered for HESR and renumbered: MNN 1471 is now HESR 1721, and CORP 3838 is now HESR 2029.

Re: New Power for the Huron & Eastern?
Interesting choice on the partial renumberings, do they now fit into some larger G&W numbering system? Glad to see the older equipment including the GE's and the former MNN high hood GP9 included. Kudos to the paint crew. Some patch jobs look so bad, here they matched all paint colors and did a good job stenciling on the new lettering and numbers - I'm impressed. Looking forward to some orange and black uniformity in the future!
Our here in Connecticut, the local RailAmerica outfit is the CSOR - Connecticut Southern. They regularly have power assigned from the New England Central (NECR). I just saw and got some photos of their Springfield-Cedar Hill road job with a CSOR SD40-2, RA painted red silver and blue high hood GP38 from NECR, and a standard NECR GP38 the other day. Glad I did. CSOR has one repainted G&W orange Geep at the moment.
Thanks for the photos at Bay City.

Ya won't see the 5175 in Saginaw any time soon...It's a 6 axle and they can't take 6 axles over the saginaw river bridge at Washington ave.GTW6401 wrote:The 5175 and 8905 just have the HESR reporting marks and numbers on the cab now.

Re: New Power for the Huron & Eastern?
Why cant they take six axles over the bridge? Dont they have the SD40-2's on the durand road freight and coal trains?

These are staying around then? Would anyone know where these will be used? I saw 5175 in May 2012 in Durand! I'm glad some old GEs aren't leaving!!!!

5175 and 8905 are sold. 5086, 5492 are sticking around for a while longer. I wouldn't be surprised if they kept 5086 for coal/grain and sent 5492 out to the thumb.Robertrains wrote:GTW6401 wrote:The 5175 and 8905 just have the HESR reporting marks and numbers on the cab now.

No.
5175 and 8905 were relettered HESR yesterday. Patrick posted photos on the michiganrailroads.com lower peninsula board. (Nice shots, Patrick!)
He also posted shots of HESR 2029 (was CORP 3838) and HESR 1721 (was MNN 1471). And the WGCR 9519 is now HESR 3037.
In summary- There is lots of new HESR power on the HESR. Unfortunately for the HESR, none of it is new to the HESR...

Re: New Power for the Huron & Eastern?
The GE's have not been sold as previously stated. 5175 and 8905 were renumbered along with the CORP 3826, WGCR 9519, and MNN 1471. The other non HESR units on the HESR will likely follow. This is to simply the G&W paperwork for the FRA, its a lot simpler when all of the engines on your railroad are all under the same company name. The GE's are currently stored with 5086 being the only one stored serviceable currently.

So, here is video of the 1721 on 740 yesterday (5-23-13). Glad to see this guy back in service. There are a lot of changes coming it seems, gonna be very interesting around here, it already is getting that way. I also got some shots of the renumbered units, I will try and reference in future videos the previous number of the locos as best as I can;

I enjoy your videos Justin of those slow moving trains on old jointed rail The string of GTW box cars is a big bonus too!Justin wrote:So, here is video of the 1721 on 740 yesterday (5-23-13).

Pretty sure they were all sold to Mexico last year.59caddy wrote:My first post!

There was a picture floating around of either the 2001 or 2002 with a cab grafted onto it.
