Unread post by Raildudes dad »

All quiet at the GRE. They did work yesterday but no pickup / delivery by CSX or NS last night. UST still car pooling from there -still don't know where to.

Let's try to keep our CSX michigan posts for the day together.

Here's Donnieland's report:

1158pm - z627 - main to siding holland
1158pm - d700 - slow app east waverly
245am - k911 - wb - 2 6 axle motors - approx 50 empty stone cars
703am - e945 - wb - 2 6 axle bnsf motors - 123 cars
708am - e945 - all stop west end waverly
711am - e945 - clear west end waverly ( 112th is a parking lot by 708am )

And here's Tlout's report:

Looks like another rainy day - sheesh. And to think that I missed X500 yesterday when the sun was out...

As I got my food, got down to the tracks with just barely not enough time to get a photo of the headend of D801 taking empties west. They are running down to Wells to drop off these cars, then run lite back to Holland to pick up the Waverly cars for Grand Rapids.
D80118 met CP X500 at E. Saugatuck, where I got a shot of X500 near the Holland airport.

You can also include in that list Q224, K388, Q150, Q321, Q322, N849 (or somthing like that), a Grain train, Q290, Q392, Q399, Q335, Q334, all of them, and a few others

Really was not my fault, stupid tie gang, and there cerfew. Light power out of Rouge, but problem with power right off the bat, delayed two hours there. Then 30 min at Michigan Ave Conn, waiting on X500. Then the dispatcher, made us cross over in three of the 6 crossovers before Eckels Rd. meaning to of the three were restricting, (15 max). Lost another good half hour there. Sat at Hinse Park, for another half hour waiting on D716. Around the corner and into the Plymouth pass, behind D738, and to wait, for Q272, for three hours. Also signal problems at Gleenwood for the second night in a row. Also part of the three hour delay was, as a effect of the cerfew was the fact that all the trains working New Boston, show up at the same time. All at NB in a 6 hour time frame, wating to work, and having to wait, to get around everyone else, was Q287, Q216, Q289, Q245, Q224. So needless to say it gets buissy all at once. Then it cram everyone down there to fight for a spot all at once. We finall get down there at 2:30 in the morning, with 8 hours on duity already. But guess what, the U man is done at 1:00 and I have 8200 feet to triple up, and also some of it is over Pennsylvania, witch requires a 5200' walk just to get to the joint. Then pull out line ourselves up the main, and shove back 8200 feet, to clear Sibley Rd. (a must do now). Last I figured when it was all said and done, I walked 25,500' last night. Now dont forget the three and half hours it took, I have # 2 track OOS cause we are there. So that ment everyone else had to fight to go past between Romulis and Carleton. Q224 ended up highballing there pick up at NB, as I only had a hour to go, and they only had two to go when I finaly left. Departed NB, with half hour left, pulled down to Carleton to die, cut the road north of town. Just to add insult to injury, Q321 died along side of us after having to wait to get past us. So both #1 & #2 were blocked for over three hours this morning at Carleton, with southbounds. And Q290 at 9:30 was just starting to work NB, but couldent go anywhere because of the dead trains ahead.

PS isint this the woman in the photo? (the one posting at the end of the thread)

X500 and Q335 met at Seymour. Dispatcher gave X500 the Lako and Jordan blocks, telling them that Q327 was coming into Lansing and there was a G010 for Grand Ledge out there to deal with.

The Saginaw sub between Plymouth was definetly not designed with that many trains tranversing the line in such a short time span. The big problem I believe is that the long siding along the Sag sub main is only 15 mph. Plus all the turnouts on that stretch I believe are only 15 mph. So viola, a big quagmire! CSX should've considered much needed improvements on this line prior to the Conrail split. And the Lincoln secondary should've been signaled.
Now you know why CP chose to take its trains off CSX! CSX does not want to spend anymore money on Michigan other than for general maintenance! CP went to NS about running their train on NS. So, NS spends the money on new signals needed for the Detroit District! Whereas, CSX won't spend any money for improvements in Michigan.

Q334 IS DEAD! Saw this by my house today. He is on the passing siding south of the diamond, facing very close to the Joy Road crossing. -Chris

Sounds like CSX doesn't want to live by the old adage, "You've got to spend money to make money."
