I've been railfanning on the CN Holly Sub for years now (mostly in Royal Oak and Pontiac). It's not the most exciting place to railfan, but it has its moments. Here are some of my faves:
...well, those and the many GTWs I've caught. Anyone else have anything worth sharing?

One can hang out in Royal Oak and have plenty to eat and drink in between trains. The signals at both Woodward Heights (to the south) and Farnum (to the north) are absolutes, and not permissives, unlike the majority of the Holly Sub signals. So you really don't need a scanner to know if something is coming.

Yep, that's true. They're both easily visible from downtown, too.

The Holly has its moments. Evenings are generally the busiest.
Tonight I saw a unit sand train heading south in Royal Oak running with distributed power.
