Thats a horrible idea, it would never work. The only way someone else could buy it, is if they have a lot of money or some large organization could buy it and use it. No body has 20,000 to just buy an engine anymore these days, unless there was a big need for it.

A lot of people could afford to purchase a locomotive for 20,000 dollars, its just that they probally arent railfans.

Why would they sell it for $20,000 when scrap value is $40,000 and they don't have to worry about moving it someplace else just cut it up and take the money to the bank to pay bills

I didn't see any motive power at Rifkin's today, but there are four LSRC boxcars with 'CUT' spray painted on them, parked on the spur in front of Jack Rabbit Bean; they've been there a few days, at least.

Another couple of box cars were dropped off today, they're sitting on the opposite side of Jack Rabbit Bean, closer to the scrap yard. Still no sign of motive power.

Last weekend the 975 was in Alpena next to the roundhouse. The Lake State was also scrapping old stone cars.
