At 9:21am, a CSX maintainer reported the Plymouth Subdivision's main out of service due to "a five inch pull-apart at Milepost 79." This is just east of Dobie Road, in Okemos. The line is single-track here, so this stops everything in both directions.
They're going to ahve to cut in a replacement rail. A track crew has been sent from Ensel to get a rail in Grand Ledge, and will probably not even be on the scene for another hour. The maintainer reporting the problem estimated it would be 3-1/2 to 4 hours before the main would be back in service. "I did my best to fix it, but I just didn't have enough heat," he told the dispatcher.
It's snowing here with a brisk wind, which won't make things any easier for the track crew.
Update 10:45am: The foreman requested authority from east end Trowbridge to west end Williamston (which is to say, the single track between those sidings) until 1300. He reported he was there "at MP 80." -I- was at MP80 waiting to see what sort of MOW equipment responded, and I dodn't see him pass. I -was- in the van (reading a book about train wrecks), so maybe all they sent out was a track car--that could ahve slipped by me, I guess.
Doktor, I don't know if Q335 got past before they closed the main.

Lead unit is BNSF 8965 with a trailing cream unit. Looks like D801 was going to leave the load of empties at Wells, head down to GJ and help push that train up the hill.cnw8835 wrote:Coal train still at Grand Junction. X500 rolling by it now at track speed.
