I guess I need to explore more but haven't had the time.
I had no idea the tracks ran thatfar back between what I assume where the old car/locomotive shps that the covered hoppers and boxcar is on. Also didn't notice the track that runs back where the open top hopers are behind the shops. Do they load or unload in that stucture over the track?
I am no expert on Jackson yard so if anyone is in the know please feel free to chime in. I labeled what I understand is the commerce around Jackson Yard
Kerry e mailed this pic to me last night and I asked him to share it with the board.
What you have labeled "Ballast Pit" is not so. Only place they unload ballast is downtown, right across from the depot. Switch comes off Freight Main 3 right in front of the depot and curves around a bit to the south then straightens out eat again and then goes over a pit where they can dump the ballest then grab it with a front end loader.
I used to get paid for doing what all of you like to watch!
yes there is a pit at the location indicated but it does't look like it's used all that much anybody's guess as as good as mine as to what it is used for now
The ballast pit has always been downtown at the old coach yard. The covered shed in the middle of the yard is for protection against the elements for the RIP track.
