So this was announced today. If this holds up this will be the engines first venture off GLC in over a decade.
My question is how in the world will 1225 be getting to the Port of Monroe? It will obviously be towed, but what way will it go?
Did the PM berks historically visit Monroe? If so this would be a historic moment for the locomotive to make a return to Monroe.

That would be something if they took it down the Holly subdivision… Which would most likely happen to be honest, since it would be counter-intuitive to have it go East then turn south onto the MTC Sub. However, with CN, expect the unexpected.

Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
Why not have it go down the GLC/AA to Toledo, then up to Monroe?
Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
Makes more sense as they would avoid Detroit.
I wonder if this is a test for taking the 1225 to other places?
Were its last runs off of GLC the Bluewater trips on the LSRC?

Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
1225 did a series of employee appreciation trips/dinner excursions in the Bay City area for Rail America and Huron & Eastern in I believe 2008 (might’ve been 2007?). Those were kept pretty quiet, so I don’t think many people got photos of it.NS3322 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 2:36 pmMakes more sense as they would avoid Detroit.

Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
Would wager 1225 would go Ann Arbor to NS at Milan. Then east to Oakwood and south to Monroe. If not then Ann Arbor to NS at Toledo. Keeps one less railroad involved.David Collins wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 11:42 amThat would be something if they took it down the Holly subdivision… Which would most likely happen to be honest, since it would be counter-intuitive to have it go East then turn south onto the MTC Sub. Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
The big question is about CN refusing to let 1225 cross their diamond in Durand.

They’ve done it in the past, the last time they did it when in 2019 if I remember correctly, so it should be fine

Doubtful. Most likely just a deadhead. The Port of Monroe is paying for this movedalek ling wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 8:20 pmDoes anyone know if they would do a excursion trip from Owosso to Monroe. I would love to ride that

They can cross as long as a diesel leads. TSBY got away with that for years by calling it in as a regular move until someone at CN caught wind of it and busted them for it. Told them not to do it again and slap a diesel on the point or they can’t traverse the line.

Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
I would not expect them to tow 1225 to Port Huron to go south. That’s a lot of risk if something happened in a single track portion of the line that would cause 1225 to tie up the railroad.David Collins wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 11:42 amThat would be something if they took it down the Holly subdivision… Which would most likely happen to be honest, since it would be counter-intuitive to have it go East then turn south onto the MTC Sub. On a side note I REALLY hope they go down the Holly, that would fulfill a boyhood dream to see 1225 go through Holly the town I grew up in. I’ve always wanted to see steam in town. I missed out on all the Chessie and GT excursions.

Why is that? Does the steamer really do that much damage to the diamond?MQT1223 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 9:30 pmThey can cross as long as a diesel leads. Compared to a loaded grain train?
The real issue, they're concerned about trespassing idiots getting in front of the train to get the perfect picture/video.
A diesel stuck in front limits that opportunity.
Those idiots also have a tendency to get in front of the regular freights.

Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
They probably also want a PTC engine up front
Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
I don’t think that this is a deterrent nor a legitimate reason that CN uses. More likely they don’t want loaded passenger trains crossing the diamond AND they are concerned with the locomotive failing enroute blocking their diamond or the Holly sub.DaveO wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 6:46 amCompared to a loaded grain train?

In case you haven’t been trackside for a tea kettle recently, a diesel doesn’t really slow down too many railfans from seeing these deadhead moves.

Re: 1225 to Port of Monroe
The PM did have a connection between 7th st and Depot st. (East of Telegraph Road.)) that would have led to the now Port area. Not sure if they had trackage rights.MQT1223 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 24, 2022 11:28 amhttps://www.facebook.com/1000093314622 ... 84979/?d=n

No indication yet that it's anything but the engine going for a visit, I would assume a tool car at least tagging along.Ypsi wrote: ↑Tue Jan 25, 2022 12:18 pmI don’t think that this is a deterrent nor a legitimate reason that CN uses. You missed the point. Idiots will stand in or next to the track to get the head on shot.
No matter where you stand, you're not going to get that head-on shot with a diesel up-front.

Wouldn't be surprised if they took CSX most of the way.
