WHATS NEW AT LSRC??

Unread post by joeyuboats »

Looking at a Google image on the LSRC YARD, at Saginaw. Anybody know what the 6 blue/ white locos are to the EAST side of the roundhouse are doing there, along with the old 469??

Those are gensets being stored on property from CIT. McGrew Yard in Saginaw has at times been a place where lessors would store locomotives (like the soo line SD60 and CIT SD60 as well as the gensets).

McGrew Yard is in Flint.

The locomotives in Saginaw being referred to are EMD GP20D's, which is a four-axle B-B locomotive built in collaboration with MotivePower and EMD, with a Caterpillar prime mover.

The Alabaster Branch is being put back in since synthetic gypsum is in short supply, so it's going to be shipped out by rail again.

Wonder, if/when LSRC will donate/ sell/ restore 469, as it is the last of the original RS- 2 locos, and is pretty historic. It's been sitting there for about 15 or 20 years. Just slowly rusting.

They no longer own the unit, its owned by an Alco parts supplier and has been stored at Saginaw for them. IIRC the company's name is Waymore Power.

You would think that by now ,SOMEBODY would recognize the significance of that unit, and not let it rust away
