HESR Obs. 8-5-2008- Now, with Pictures!!

The 805 (thanks Jon) had 3867 leading 3866 tonight. Caught 'em about a mile northeast of Reese, right about 8:00pm.

3865 was sitting in Reese, with its nose pointed toward Richville/Vassar.

Speaking of Richville, there is a cut of CHs sitting on what appears to be the switch for the Richville siding, near the Reese-Vassar "mainline."

Looks like the power for the Dow Job tonight (sorry, forgot the number and don't know the new symbol) is 5086 and one of the 8900s. Looked like a nice size train from Wilder Rd. too...

Sitting at Wenona yard was:
4065, 998, TPW 2002
3868
5086/890X
9712
890X
5492
2014?
Anything stored out where the recently scrapped units used to sit (2001/2002/5175?)

Also, the prime mover from one of the old units sitting near where the scrapping took place is now covered by a gray tarp. The red and black M&N crane used in the scrapping/recovery is still sitting close to Euclid Rd.

Lastly, for what it's worth, I happened to see quite a bit of the traffic on Wilder Rd last night, and noticed a truck with a load of flanged wheels on it coming from the east, headed apparently for the freeway (I-75). I couldn't see it clearly enough to count the number of axles on it, but there were some axles that appeared rusty and others that did not appear to be rusty. I was curious if it's possible that HESR shipped out the axles under the three units that were scrapped, possibly as part of a slae or even to have new traction motors installed?

Oh yeah, I also swung by the LSRC yard on the east end of Wilder Rd. Aside from the staggering amount of motive power in plain sight (i.e. NONE), there was one surprise. I didn't bother stopping for a shot of it, but there was what looked to be a spike puller or a spike putter (something that drives spikes into the ties)...Whatever it is, it's small, bright lemon-yellow and parked just behind the hopper that appears to have been shoved into the spur in front of the Johnson & Johnson plant. It seemed a bit out of place by itself, as well as that far from other MoW equipment.

One last note- I didn't see any autoracks in or around Reese tonight (for those who've seen the thread on the Shortlines board), but I'm looking forward to seeing what shows up, assuming it really happens.

The Arthur-Sebewaing job is 805. The train out of Bad Axe is 825. Lets keep these weekly reports on this past of the HESR going!

Hi Charles, The 805 had the same power as last night 3867/3866 they pulled out of Reese around 8pm with about 30 cars in tow. 3865 was parked in the 810's usaul spot again tonight in Reese. It looks like they will be going to Caro tommrow to switch the ethinol plant judging by the cars left in Reese. Quick question does anyone know whats wrong with 3868?

A previous report stated that like the rest of the RA system, HESR trains are all alpho based now. I think it was something like LBABA for a bad axe job.
The dispatcher is cool.

As of 1850 on Wednesday (8-6-08) in Wenona (I stopped by on my "lunch" break):

3868 (usual spot on the fuel pad)
5492 (same place as last night- looked like it was east of the fuel pad, but pulled up just beyond the front of the engine house)
2014 (in front of the engine house/whatever it is)
4065/998/tpw2002 (same spot they've been in)
5175 (looked like it had been moved since last night, although it was still parked out behind/west of everything else)
8905/9712 (sitting in the yard, with a cut of cars. Was this the power on the Durand run today?)

Unfortunately, I left my notes in the car, but I can't remember anything else sitting around.

10:10pm- leaving work, I heard the Dow run blow for the Three Mile Rd. crossing. I caught 'em at Mackinaw Road about 10:20pm, with their huge 3 or 4 car train.
Power was:
8903 leading
5086 trailing

My sightings from around Reese/Arthur 8-6-08 3867 was the sole unit used on the 800/805 and 3865 is still sitting in Reese didn't look like the 810 job worked today as the cars in the Reese siding didn't move. Wkuhl, I did here that R/A went to alfa reportings for their jobs but scanner talk indicates the crews are still useing #'s for their trains so until they change I'll keep calling them what they call them.

Updates from Bay City

HESR
740 - Left out of Wenona at about 12:30pm with the usual. They did pull the coal hoppers that were being kept north of Wilder Road out, but didnt take them south.

702 - Had the 8905, 9712, and 5492 today.

LSRC & SBS

Z126 - Returned to Saginaw with the 1169 and 1162.

The two sets of engines at the yard today were the 3500 and 1171 / 1178 and 181, not sure where they would end up after Pinny.
