I used to take Rachael up to the Diamond around mid-night and they'ed never really mess with us. They'ed stop to see what we were up to but, after a few months they didn't seem to mind. But around Vinning Rd. you got them airport cops and state cops around, and I'm not sure how they'd react to someone taking pictures from the bridge. (THEY SHOULDN'T if your taking pics from public property). But man, I could sit up there all day and watch trains and watch the planes land.

I can't remember...most likely. I had just gotten back in my car and was doing some chimping when he stopped in the southbound lane and rolled his window down. I said "I was just taking a picture of the train going by" and he said, "Oh, ok" and then drove off. That's it. No, "get the hell off the bridge" or anything like that.

Comerica Bank is big enough for a parking spot even though I hear the Bank Manager hates folks parking there to watch the Diamond... I like the abandoned lot on the SE Corner, but again I have heard the people in the House there will call the RR Cops or Romulus on you.....

I would suggest don't ever stop on a busy road no matter what the circumstance is.

Naw, its more fun when your on the point of a caboose trying to guard two crossings in a row in a town where everybody is oblivious to a train horn.

I like flagging with the truck more because of that. People see a black truck more than a big red caboose :?

I think last time I parked at the museum/post office and then just walked around. No problems.

Yeah, the museum is a nice place if your just watching trains. I've gotten some good video in the Cemetary just down the road. Plus some pacing shots at the airport.

I was just testing it out to see what it would look like. With a good camcorder and sunlight you can get some great shots.

What's "chimping"? Sounds like fun.

By the way, in decent weather, I throw my bike in the van, which solves the problem of where to park. You can always find a spot a little ways away from the tracks, and ride up to the tracks on the bike. Then you can tell the cops you're just riding your bike, and stopped to watch a train. You won't attract as much attention with no vehicle parked nearby.

If only it were that easy. A van would be nice to haul a bike around in, among other things.
