"Spaghetti" tracks? (tracks not in very good shape)

Unread post by danted23 »

Hello all!

I'm looking for some pictures of tracks that are in really bad shape, yet, still being used. I've seen some pics of tracks and just couldn't believe a locomotive and its consist could actually use them. Even here in GR, I thought for sure some tracks were out-of-use until I saw an actual train on them!

Go pretty much anywhere on the line from Alpena, south to Tawas.
Go anywhere between White Pigeon and Coldwater.

Coe Rail/ Michigan Air-Line is another example of terrible track! They are so out-of-shape and overgrown with weeds it's unbeleavable a railroad USED them!

West Michigan Railroad. See JT's great photos:

I particularly like the invisible track at Lake Cora!

How about tracks that enable a locomotive plow to hit the ground.

I'm surprised that locomotive didn't wind up on the ground.

In ohio nothing beats the notoriously horrid tracks of the Maumee and Wabash from Liberty Center to Antwerp. or the arrow straight track of the camp chase railroad in Columbus

While not the worst, the Hamilton Industrial Spur isn't in the best shape.

HESR through Croswell..specifically between Wells St and Sanborn Ave...Easily some of the worst track I have ever seen.

Here is a link to JT's pics of the Hamilton line.....I know he has more out there somewhere but couldn't find them. This line is used about once a week....owned by the Hamilton Farm Bureau but leases/uses CSX train/crews.

Old dequindre cut north of atwater south of milwaukee jct. alot of track has been pulled up recently to make space for their bike trail, but that track was terrible. the track DCON still uses isn't much better. Livernois south of grand river has some pretty aweful track too... which tank cars get moved on... scary.

A bike trail on the old Dequindre cut? I must have missed it. And such a scenic area for a bike trail.

Yes...i know.. they have cut out all the brush and trees growing in the old right of way. trail is from gratiot down to the water...kind of.. not 100% complete yet. the trail is quite nice...BUT... i liked when the old track was still there. They are tearing up old dequindre (all brick with 3 old diamonds still intact)...it may be gone now. such a neat historical area being conserved in a manner that removes everything historical (if that makes any sense). But, for anyone that wants to see...check out dequindre next to the globe trading company building, if they haven't ripped all of the street up yet there are 3 diamonds, 1 or 2 of which still have tracks going into the globe building (which is turning into lofts). even though i hate the removal of RR history, it is a well done trail. some reminders are still there like mile post markings on the bridges. And in true Detroit fashion, there are emergency phones every 50 feet or so. Happy trailing!

Chris
