Re: GLC train v. car
I particularly love the comments.
Come on people, you are the only one responsible for your actions. And there is NO reason why he couldn't of avoided hitting the train. He should of stopped, plain and simple. The only way you wouldn't be able to see a train in time is if you couldn't even see 50ft in either direction, or your music was above the law level where you couldn't hear the horn. And train speed is not an issue, since I really doubt they were even going 30mph through there.
It's nothing but your fault for your actions. There is no excuse.
Anyone have a pic of this particular intersection?

There is a limited view of the crossing in the video. I love the <--- look---> sign. That should say it all.

You know there is really no excuse for being hit by a train in that part of the country....the amoutn of tracks and frequency of trains just isn't there. What a retard.

Re: GLC train v. car
same thing happened to me in '99...on a saturday morning
westbound up the hill outa Plymouth..maybe 25 mph coming to Beck rd...a ford probe coming north on Beck slowed down to almost a stop then at the last minute tried to dart across...didnt make it..
we got stopped and i got back to the car....she was grabbing her coat and purse and said she was going to walk to work (shock?) ......she told me before the cops showed up she had to go she was late for work and was going to get fired (shock?...used the i was hit by a train excuse before?)...
anyway the popo shows up and start asking her questions...did you see the warning flashers...yes...did you hear the train horn....yes....did you see the headlight..yes....did you try to stop(question based on my statement to him)...yes but im late for work...could you have stopped...oh i did stop but i saw how slow it was going and knew i had time to make it....cop says you didnt make it..

I didn't say there was a limited view at the crossing. I said there is a limited view of the crossing in the video. I don't care if there is a limited view. There is still no excuse. Turn your music down, look both ways and then look again just to make sure.mikerm19 wrote:oh thanks, didnt even notice that.

Re: GLC train v. car
Yeah, that's what I figured you meant, but even in that limited view of the crossing, the crossing itself is by no means limited view, at all.
Only stupid people make the view limited.

Re: GLC train v. car
I can see how it happens. One gets used to no train multiple times crossing the tracks. You don't even think about it you're so used to no trains.
I can relate. I had a project one summer with the MIGN. The train came almost as regular as clockwork afternoons M-W-F. I got in the habit of blowing thru the crossings on T & Th. One summer afternoon, the light bulb came on, "how do I know they are still on the same schedule ?". I've stopped for every stop sign and yield at a RR crossing since (going on about 25 years or more ).
As for the kid not getting a ticket - wrong - he needs to get one for "failure to yield".
