There was an article in the Free Press on Sunday that said Procoil, which has a facility near Wayne that is served by the Michigan Line will be expanding and adding 19 jobs. Maybe they'll get a few more cars too.

Procoil (owned and operated by Worthington Steel) in Canton is the primary distribution center for its MI locations (Taylor and Jackson). Canton holds 8 cars in its two track bay and most days they have cars in there plus several on its outside spur.ns8401 wrote:There was an article in the Free Press on Sunday that said Procoil, which has a facility near Wayne that is served by the Michigan Line will be expanding and adding 19 jobs. Taylor (CN) and Jackson (NS) also get cars once or twice a month.

Right, but they'll probably need steel inbounds.... eh?KenB wrote:They are building the stamping plant so they won't have to ship stamps by rail rom another stamping plant.
Also, Check this out: new rail spur to the Humboldt Mill at Eagle Mine. A Rails-to-trails project was "reverted" for this. http://eaglemine.com/operations/humboldt-mill/

Prior to the Mill being refurbished, the largest employer in Humboldt Township was the BP gas station and general store at the corner of M-95 and M-28/US41.
That area really needs the jobs the mining project is creating.

When I was up to big bay a few years ago before ground even broke I talked to a kid about 17 or 18 that was really hoping for the Eagle Mine to get approved so he could won't some place else other than the Big Bay IGA.

EJP were getting their cars from a siding in Mancelona via transload. However, I haven't heard of any cars there in a while so they might be getting them from Clare or Petoskey now. Northern Logistics operates a big operation in those areas with a large transload yard in Clare and a few other team tracks between Cadillac and Petoskey.redside20 wrote:East Jordan Plastics is adding new business.

Re: Michigan Rail Business news
Thanks, RDD. South Haven does not have rail service so EJP is probably going to get their pellets from a transload somewhere. I see Northern Logistics trucks around the Detroit area so it's conceivable they will also go to west MI.Raildudes dad wrote:South Haven plant, not East Jordanredside20 wrote:East Jordan Plastics is adding new business.

They stopped receiving plastic pellets quite a few years ago. And I haven't seen box cars there in a few years but I'm told they still ship out by rail.Racer wrote:Wow! Re: Michigan Rail Business news
There were boxcars there visible from M-14 just east of Beck Rd. up until about a month ago maybe. I assume those are for Ford Heater.AARR wrote:They stopped receiving plastic pellets quite a few years ago. They still get 86ft boxcars to this day, but only 2-3 at a time. Nothing like it was 5-10 years ago.ns8401 wrote:They stopped receiving plastic pellets quite a few years ago. And I haven't seen box cars there in a few years but I'm told they still ship out by rail.
