Make sure this time to not have Racer need to get back to Plymouth for some other event before the steam engine goes through Durand, ok? Otherwise, drive separate :)

I wouldn't plan on that! They sure didn't let it lead on the way up. Keep in mind the hand off at Osmer took a while and the one at Milan a good bit longer since it included watering the engine...

Updates here would be appreciated althought I don't think I'll be able to go out this time (too busy at work).

Just passing Howell at 10:12 AM

(Wish I'd been out to see her come through, but the Death Cold I managed to pick up has me pretty well housebound. That hooter's a dang nice thing to have wake you out of a half-sleep daze, though!)

Pure guess but I'd think they're to Osmer by now, but anyone's guess as to how long the hand off to the Ann Arbor will take (could be quick, could be a while). Since it sounds like just the NKP 765 & museum cars (i.e. no revenue freight or GLC engines) it may be a fairly quick deal - assuming AA puts one of their own engines on the point and has one waiting at Osmer for 765 to come down...

What's the weather like up there??

From Gregg(not sure why he wasn't just posting this on the board) but "from a source on scene, 765 at Osmer" - 11:30am

From gregg - "Ann Arbor RR is providing diesels again. GLC 391 lead from owosso, but they cut it off at byron and let 765 run solo." - 11:37am

From Gregg(not sure why he wasn't just posting this on the board)
I was in class at LCC in Lansing. No computer there. Had it not been for that, I would have been out amongst the chasers. My class didn't start until 10:10, though, so I did manage to get out and do a little fanning on the first leg of the run. As mentioned earlier, GLC had 391 on the point (surprise, eh? :)), to cross the CN lines in Durand. For once in the railroad world, the train was right on the advertised departing from Owosso. CN_Okemos and I caught up with them in Corunna and followed down M-71 to Durand, where they waited for CN 490 to head down the Holly Sub before continuing south. I had heard the diesel would come off at Byron, but also that it would stay in. I didn't feel like risking it and missing class, so I headed home at this point.
As of right now, again from live sources, the 765 and train on the move westbound and already out of Milan as of 2:14 PM. As per the trip up in July, as well as the moves to and from North Judson, IN earlier this year, NS has provided an escort for the home stretch. Here's what's on the point now:
NS C40-8W 8429:

Once again, the train is on the move out of Milan as of 2:14 PM. Heads up, SE MI, NW OH and NE IN!

Totally forgot about 765 coming south today, and was out on bike when I first heard him whistling for Riddle Street coming south. For an old man, with way to many clothes on, pedaled as fast as I could and finally (mile and a half) got ahead of it to see it (along with many others) at the viaduct east of town. Good thing he was going slow, because I wasn't. Even more of a treat to see it, was that he was whistling almost all the day through town. Not only at crossings, but many times inbetween crossings. Such sweet music!!!

NKP 765 took water at Milan, MI. Was interchanged to NS and departed westbound on the NS from Milan, MI @ 1407. NS 8429, ex-CR unit, is in the lead.

A Great End to the 2009 Summer Steam Season. Myself and Chris saw her at:

Vernon
CP Pitt (with CN 490 as well with a BCOL 4646 unit Too)
Cohoctah
Howell (Depot)
(Got stopped by Q335 at Ann Pere CSXT 54XX and 7678 Leading)
8 Mile, Whitmore Lake
Osmer
Bridge over Huron River
and Milan

We chased with Per Rock (Peter), Justin, Robert (KenB's Son) and CN_Okemos (Greg). Had a blast and was shocked that the GLC let her run loose to Osmer, it was a real treat. Cops in Milan were pretty cool as long as you weren't in the way they had no problem letting you take all the photos you want.
