New unit for the Mid Michigan
New unit for the Mid Michigan
Heard from a friend today & CF&E GP38-2 #3885 has been interchanged to CSX at Queensgate Yard here in Cincinnati, OH and will be in route the Mid Mighigan Railroad. This unit has been inactive for about a year & a half and has received a rebuilt prime mover.
Possibly is 3885 going to the GRE to replace MMRR 24?
Here are a few photos of 3885

Certainly could be. There's been talk of 24 going to Muskegon. That GP38-2 could also be going to Muskegon as well, who knows. We'll have to keep tabs on it, for sure.

That's one of the later model GP38-2's. It has the extended anti-climber and later style radiator grills. And I can't tell from the angles but it may have the longer nose too.

Don, 3885 was one of the C&NW units originally ordered by the Rock Island but delivered to the C&NW as 4619 in December of 1979. A few more pics for you http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/locoPi ... x?id=33998

Thanks cnw8835. Those units are probably very similar to GTW's ex RI units, 5850-5861.

Is the 3836 running alright still? Probably wasn't a serious issue but I found in in North Yard on October 14th with a bit of an issue going on. Wondering if this has anything to do with the new power transfer?

What works out of Alma now? And where was 3885 hiding? I never seen it in Lima while I was there, and I thought I seen just about all of them at one point.
Re: New unit for the Mid Michigan
It was/is usually the 3868 between Paines and Alma but its the only engine and they have some good sized trains for only 1 engine.
Re: New unit for the Mid Michigan
CF&E 3885 has been stored out of service for the last year and a half at the Indiana & Ohio Railway's shop with a bad order prime mover from what I heard, but never the less it recieved a rebuilt 645 and was then shipped out.

I didn't realize they needed power in muskegon. Is one of the regular units down?

Didn't JT report a few nights ago that Z627 went through Grand Haven with 3839 and 3836? I know it was sometime after the shot of 3836 with the doors open above.
